JDE Weekly Parent Update 10/2/2020

 

Panther Parents,

Thank you so much for your hard work and support alongside us this first quarter.  We appreciate you,and hope you and our students get some much needed and deserved rest. Please read through all of the school updates below.  You can also stay informed with district updates by going to this WCPSS website.

Updates for this Week:

  • New! ​Returning to School--You have probably already seen the plan for elementary school Plan B students to return to campus later this month, but I wanted to share it with you once more in a chart format. 
    • What additional information is on the way? In the weeks to come, you can expect updates regarding changes we are making with specials classes, carpool and bus procedures, lunch, recess, and more. Thank you for your patience while we are working through the planning phase. We are very excited to have our students returning to the building!

 

  • New!Cohort Information for JDE Students--We will email all of our cohort assignments out to our families between 3 and 7 pm on Tuesday, October 6

  • New! ​Second Quarter Material Distribution--We will be sending home more learning materials for our students on these dates:

    • Thursday, October 15 from 1-5 pm

    • Friday, October 16 from 8:30 am- 12 pm

  • New! Weekly Asynchronous Days--WCPSS is permitting schools to implement a remote learning (asynchronous) day each week until Friday, October 23. The remote learning day is intended to support both teachers and students in having sufficient time to fully engage and succeed in their work.  
    • ​​​​​​​Jones Dairy Elementary will have a remote learning (asynchronous) day on Friday, October 23. There will be no live meets on this day.
      • Beginning the week of October 26, the district will provide consistent expectations of what these remote learning days will look like and dates for all WCPSS schools. More information will be delivered by our district leadership in the upcoming weeks.
  • Update from Mrs. DuPont regarding Library Books--
    • Track out pickup times will only be Wednesday 10/7 and Wednesday 10/14.
    • Normal pickup times will resume Monday October 19th and will continue to be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week starting at 1pm.  An email will be sent out letting you know when they are ready for pickup.  Please reach out to Mrs. DuPont if you are not able to pick up within this timeframe.  (kdupont@wcpss.net)
    • New holds will need to be placed by 8 am on the scheduled day of pickup.  If picking up books on Monday then holds will need to be in the system by 8 am Monday morning. If you are picking up books on Wednesday then holds will need to be in the system by 8 am Wednesday morning, and if picking up books on Friday then holds will need to be in the system by 8 am Friday morning.
    • Green bags - please return the green bags when you return the books as they will be reused.
    • Library books not picked up within three days will be returned to circulation so other students can have a chance to check them out.

             Thank you to all of our families who have already utilized our new Library Check Out Procedures.

  • Immunizations--All immunization requirements and health assessments are now due by September 30, 2020.  Students will be granted a 30-day grace period which expires on October 30, 2020. 

 

PTA News:

  • No Fuss Fundraiser--Don’t forget to help us with our No Fuss Fundraiser! We are working to support JDE purchase items for both virtual and in person learning including: Raz Kids Reading Program, room dividers for social distancing, and technology grants for our teachers to purchase other virtual learning apps for the students.   • Updated! First JDE Cookbook--How would you like to be a part of the very first Jones Dairy Elementary Cookbook? Please read here for more information. Please see the attached flyer for more information. 

  • New! October Newsletter--Please check out the newest JDE PTA Newsletter here.
  • Join the PTA--Please support the JDE PTA by becoming a member! The cost is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family (2 memberships). A portion goes towards national and state dues and a portion goes toward programs for students, teachers right here at JDE, and much more!
    • Every person who joins automatically becomes a member of both the North Carolina PTA and National PTA. JDE PTA members will receive special access to discounts at PTA events throughout the year.  Members are entitled to National PTA membership discounts. Thanks for all your support!
