Student Service Team Message, 4/3/20
April 3, 2020
Dear JDE Families,
We hope this message finds you all safe and healthy.
Our Student Services Team (counselor, psychologist, and social worker) wanted to reach out to let you all know that we are here for you during this unprecedented time. There may be times in the near future when you need support; please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us at any time. Our Student Services Team can assist with specific concerns including managing time, staying organized, and providing resources on topics of anxiety, coping skills, healthy screen time and SEL (social emotional learning) skill-building.
Some of you have reached out to ask if counseling with your child can continue. At this time, our Department of Counseling and Student Services has explicitly instructed us not to continue with direct services to students until we have more guidance. Your child’s confidentiality is one of our primary concerns, and providing virtual counseling may jeopardize that. If you find that your child is in need of counseling, however, we encourage you to contact the number on the back of your insurance card or reach out to Alliance at 1-800-510-9132. We also encourage you to view the WCPSS Guidelines on Emotional Safety for Students.
By now, you probably have heard that many schools and organizations are providing meals to students. If this is something that you need, please refer to the Wake Network of Care.
We would like to offer our remaining school supplies to families in need. When families pick up student devices on Tuesday, we will have basic supplies available for them to pick up as well.
We will be providing resources to teachers periodically to share with you all to ensure that we are targeting your child’s social and emotional needs. We plan to continue with Character Education awards as well.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out for anything you might need. Our Student Services Team will continue to meet weekly to gather resources and problem-solve any issues that arise. Your voice matters to us, and we will do what we can to support you as we navigate this “new normal” together.
Traci Johnson, Counselor
Hannah Macomson, Psychologist
Melanie Spainhour, Social Worker
