Calendar for 2021-2022:

The WCPSS BOE education approved the calendars for next year at their meeting Tuesday evening.  Heritage Elementary will follow a multi-track year round calendar next year.  We are working vigorously to complete all track assignments and hope to communicate those to you in the coming days. Some changes will be necessary due to staffing and virtual academy.

Face Mask Guidance:

Based on new guidance issued Wednesday by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), face coverings are now optional while outdoors. Face coverings are still required for everyone ages 5 and older while indoors and on school transportation. This means students and staff will not be required to wear face coverings outdoors for recess, classes held outdoors, outdoor PE classes, outdoor eating, and similar small gatherings. Students and staff may choose to wear a face covering outdoors in these situations if they want, but a school or staff member may not require it. NCDHHS still recommends that anyone who is not vaccinated continue to wear a face covering when they are closer than six feet to another person, even when outdoors. However, this is a NCDHHS recommendation and not a requirement. If students choose to remove their face mask when outside we will ask them to simply pull it down under their chin rather than removing it entirely to avoid losing face masks.

Summer Learning Camp:

On April 1, 2021 The Summer Extension Learning Recovery and Enrichment Bill was ratified and put into law.  The purpose of this legislation is to provide additional in-person instruction to address learning loses and other impacts students have experienced due to COVID-19. Various pieces of data were used to identify students eligible for this program. All data points indicate a significant gap between student performance and grade level expectations.  Camp will be held during track outs for schools on a multi-track calendar.  Identified students will be bringing home invitations on Monday.  All invites must be returned by Friday May 14 so we can staff appropriately.

Thank you!

A huge thank you from the entire HES staff to our PTA and families for sharing such love and appreciation this week in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week.  Our staff truly felt special.  When asked, staff members most appreciated the kind notes and letters from students.  The Taco Truck was also a huge hit!  We appreciate all that you do each day to support your students.

Attention: HES Artists, Writers, & Photographers:
