Virtual Academy Parent Survey for 2nd Semester – enroll or come out

Week 2 having students in the building was GRRRREAT~ Students and parents did a wonderful job.  We are excited to welcome students in grades PreK-3 Cohort C on Monday.

A few reminders:

  • All students must wear a mask at all times.
  • Students arriving or leaving campus using carpool should be able to access their vehicle independently. All adults should remain in the car.  With the additional time needed for COVID screenings it is helpful when students can exit the car quickly.
  • Please send your child’s device charger to school with them for when the battery gets low during the day.

Positivity Project:

Next week’s character strength is bravery. All students will be discussing what bravery means during their morning meeting.  Bravery is acting with mental, moral or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary.  Can you think of a great book when the character demonstrated bravery?  Individuals with this strength prefer to try and fail than to never try at all.

  • “I have learned over the years that when ones’ mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.” Rosa Parks
  • “It is not the critic who counts… The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena…who at worst, if he fails, at least fails by daring greatly.” Theodore Roosevelt

Health Screenings:

If a child has two temperature readings higher than 100.4 they are not allowed to enter school that day nor are any siblings.  The child with the high temperature must either have a negative COVID test, a doctor’s note stating the symptoms are related to another condition or be symptom free for 10 days prior to ALL family members returning to school.

Wake Supports:

If the pandemic has created some additional needs for your family you may be eligible for some additional support.  Please check out the Wake Supports site.

Accurate Contact Info:

All of our communication is via emails and texts messages at this point. If you have changed your phone number or email since enrolling your child/ren at HES please email with the accurate information.

Schedule Changes:

As we prepare for all Pre-K – 3rd grade students returning to the building each day and 4th and 5th graders on rotations beginning November 16 there will be some schedule changes for VA and remote (grades 4 and 5). Please be on the lookout from your child’s teacher prior to the 16th with the new schedule.

Virtual Academy Option:

WCPSS will be deploying a survey December 2 to all elementary families allowing you to indicate if you want your child to enroll in Virtual Academy or come to school face to face for the second semester.  This survey will close on December 9.  Please be having conversations about this now as we will need to make staff adjustments based on parent responses.  This will be a very quick turnaround and changes will not be able to be made after December 9.  Things to consider:  WCPSS is recommending all Pre-K – 5th grade students return in person daily beginning second semester. At that time we would be in Plan A when social distancing is no longer required.
