HES Announcements 8.21.20

Dear HES Families:  Congratulations!  You have successfully completed Week 1 of virtual learning.  While this week presented some challenges all persevered and had a tremendous week of getting to know staff and students.  Next week we will continue Google Meets at 9:00 a.m. each day.  During this time we will be using the Positivity Project to identify strengths of each other and recognize that all people matter.  The focus for next week will be developing Other People Matter mindsets.  Please ask your child about their class discussions during morning meetings.

Supply Distribution

There are certain instructional materials that we want all students to have in their possession in order to perform the activities within their daily instruction (ie: math manipulatives, EL texts, workbooks, etc.).  HES supply distribution will be on Wednesday August 26 and Thursday August 27.

Wednesday August 26 times are as follows:

8:30 - 10:00 – Last names that begin with Q-Z

10:30 - 12:00 – Last names that begin with A-H

12:30 – 2:00 Last names that begin with I-P

Thursday August 27 times are as follows:

10:00 – 11:30 Last names that begin with A-H

12:30 – 2:00 Last names that begin with I-P

2:00 – 3:30 Last names that begin with Q-Z

All cars should enter the parking lot in front of the school. You will circle the building as if in morning carpool.  We will have several pick-up points along the way.

Single Subject Acceleration:

Single Subject Acceleration is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than is typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities in either Language Arts or Mathematics. More information is available here. All parent requests are due by August 31, 2020.

Technology Assistance:

Here is a short video if you are  having trouble logging into the WakeID.  This often occurs when they have more than one student using the same device.  The issue is that the student is logged into the WakeID portal but not the Chrome browser.  We don't  want students using incognito. Instead, parents (and/or student) can add their wcpss profile to the Chrome browser and click on it each time they log onto a device. Multiple profiles can be added so parents and students can share the same device if needed.  I am including a silent video that shows parents how to do it.

Manage the Chrome Browser

If you need additional assistance families who have a technology issue and need help, can contact the Student Help Desk at or by phone weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 919-694-8100. Translators are available.

FYI: Immunization requirement update

A new Executive Order issued yesterday by Governor Roy Cooper suspends but does not waive documentation deadlines for proof-of-immunization and health assessment requirements for school. All immunization requirements and health assessments are now due by September 30, 2020.  Students will be granted a 30-day grace period which expires on October 30, 2020. This means students will be excluded from school (in-person or virtually) on October 31, 2020. Annual Reporting for Immunizations and Health Assessments will also be extended until December 15, 2020.
