HES Weekly Announcements 5.1.20

We miss our students and families - please watch this video to see how much we miss you!

May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week and we will be celebrating our teachers in very different ways this year. In years past, our school has held luncheons and planned other special events to let our educators know how much they mean to us. Now that school buildings are closed and our teachers are implementing remote learning, we are asking parents to consider celebrating this special week in some new and creative ways.

Following are a few ways you can honor your child’s teacher next week:

  • Email a thank you note or have your child create a card or picture and email a picture of it to his or her teacher.
  • Send an E-gift card. Many businesses allow you to purchase gift cards online and send them via email.
  • Have your student create a video message and email it to his or her teacher.
  • Many teachers are using Google Meet to meet with students during remote learning. Have your student create a thank you sign to hold up during the Meet or help your student come up with some words of appreciation to share during the Meet.
  • Share what makes your child’s teacher so special on social media and tag our school and use the hashtag #ThankAWCPSSTeacher.

Our teachers have been working very hard to implement remote learning for students and many of them also are supporting learning for their own children at the same time. I encourage you to take a moment next week to recognize them for all they are doing during these challenging times.

Reflections Contest:

We are calling all HES Artists, Writers, & Photographers!    There's still time to participate in the Heritage Hurricanes Reflections

Art Program.   We are extending the deadline to next Friday, May 8th.   Submit your most creative & imaginative works of

art & literature, inspired by the 2020 theme “Small Things Matter”.      What a great time to remember all the small things that

matter most while we are quarantining and schooling from home. Take time to brainstorm all the people, things, & ideas

that really do matter most AND THEN turn those ideas into artwork, sculpture, a short story, a poem, or a photograph to

share with HES friends and family at our Virtual Art Ceremony on Thursday, May 14th.    You can learn more about how

to participate by visiting this website   Please email Emily Weisz Page Mathias if you have any questions.

Art Activities Website:

SEL Bingo:

Check out this Social Emotional Learning Bingo game to add some fun family activities to provide some stability and calmness during this time.  Have some fun seeing who can get Bingo first.

Applying for federal free or reduced price school meals:

We realize that many families’ economic and employment situations have changed during this pandemic. Families can apply at any time for free or reduced price lunch, which may also qualify them for other state and federal benefits.

We will continue to communicate via HES Announcements bi-weekly that is posted on our website. Parents may also receive it as an email and/or a text message with the link. If you would like to add or change your method of receiving this information please email with you updated information.
