HES Weekly Announcements 4.2.20

I trust that everyone is remaining healthy and beginning to establish a daily routine as we adjust to our new normal.  It is imperative that students actively engage in learning tasks for 2 hours each weekday.  All teachers are posting assignments in their Google classrooms for students to connect and get accustomed to this style of learning and teaching. In addition, each teacher has Office Hours for 1 hour each day.  Please encourage your child to utilize this time if additional assistance with an assignment is needed.

Calendar Change:

WCPSS has evaluated all calendars and determined that all multi-track year-round schools will follow the traditional calendar for as long as schools are closed beginning April 13.  If schools re-open May 18, adjustments will be made to accommodate all students.  If schools remain closed beyond May 18 Track 1 will end this school year on June 4 and Tracks 2,3 and 4 will end on June 11.  This means that Track 4’s current track out is shortened by a week and that there will be no more track outs through at least May 18.

Remote Learning:

Due to this calendar change, teachers on tracks 1, 2 and 3 will continue to provide supplemental instruction through April 9.  Remote learning will begin for ALL students April 13. Here is our schedule for Remote Learning at HES

Fieldtrip Refunds:

Due to schools closing because of the COVID-19 virus, all field trips for the rest of the school year have been cancelled. Field trips costing more than $10.00 will be refunded to parties that have paid.  Any trip that cost less than $10.00 email your child’s teacher by April 6, 2020 if you would like a refund. If we do not receive a response, we will assume you wish to donate those funds to the school.

We Need You!

As we plan for 2020-2021 school year we need your help more than ever.

  • If your child will not be attending HES next year please email Anna Blackmer ( ASAP.
  • Encourage neighbors, friends, contacts etc. to enroll now if they will have a student attending HES next year. Even though school is closed they can still enroll online.
  • If your child attends a daycare, please ask daycares to encourage families of their 4/5 year olds to enroll online NOW as well.

Preparation for 2020-2021:

We are beginning to plan for next school and invite parents to be part of that process. Earlier this year we provided the opportunity for families to request a track change if they desired one for the next school year.  At this time I am inviting parents with students on a double track (Track 1 and 4 at many grade levels) to submit a letter to Dr. Tillery by April 6, 2020 describing the learning environment in which your child performs best. Do not use any teacher name as teachers may change grade and/or track, simply describe the environment in which your child will be most successful. These may be emailed to by April 6, 2020.

We hope to communicate track assignment for those that requested by mid-late April.
