HES Weekly Announcements 3.27.20

It is with utmost sincerity that I hope each and every one of you has remained healthy – emotionally and physically – during this time.  It is certainly a time of uncertainty and newness.  Please take advantage of some of the information below to engage your children and family members with valuable learning opportunities.

WCPSS Remote Learning Launches April 6, 2020:

Since the Governor’s announcement on Monday to close schools until May 15, WCPSS staff has been working diligently to provide remote learning opportunities for students beginning April 6, 2020.  Until that time our teachers have been asked to contact every student to check on their well-being and to identify any needs for internet service and/or devices.  Next week we will begin making arrangements to provide the necessary items to all students to ensure active learning can begin April 6, 2020.  Please be sure to be maintaining structure with your children each day including a time for learning.  Currently, students may be using Dreambox (5-7 lessons per week) and K-3 students can be logging into iStation. Here is a Video link to assist parents with accessing iStation. Students should be reading daily and engaging in real world math while assisting with cooking, creating a schedule, etc.

Fieldtrip Refunds:

Due to schools closing because of the COVID-19 virus, all field trips for the rest of the school year have been cancelled. Field trips costing more than $10.00 will be refunded to parties that have paid.  Any trip that cost less than $10.00 email your child’s teacher by April 6, 2020 if you would like a refund. If we do not receive a response, we will assume you wish to donate those funds to the school.

Preparation for 2020-2021:

We are beginning to plan for next school and invite parents to be part of that process. Earlier this year we provided the opportunity for families to request a track change if they desired one for the next school year.  At this time I am inviting parents with students on a double track (Track 1 and 4 at many grade levels) to submit a letter to Dr. Tillery by April 6, 2020 describing the learning environment in which your child performs best. Do not use any teacher name as teachers may change grade and/or track, simply describe the environment in which your child will be most successful. These may be email to by April 6, 2020.

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time!  As we are all home trying to find a new normal and a schedule that works for our families, be sure to check out the PTA Facebook page for tips and ideas and ways to continue engagement with your kids while at home.  We hope to be a resource to you during this time.
