HES Weekly Announcements 3.6.20

MONDAY MARCH 9 – NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS; TEACHER WORKDAY

FAMILY GALA TONIGHT 5:30-7:00 (see below for more info)

We have had a great week of learning and teaching at HES.  We welcome back our track 3 students this week.  Kindergarteners are making words and becoming experts at counting to 70, first graders are learning all about open and closed shapes – vertices, sides, etc., ask your second grader about Robot R and your third grader about fractions. Fourth graders took their Performance Task Assessment this week measuring the 4C’s (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking) while 5th graders are busy working on their opinion writing piece.  Teachers and students are working hard!

THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to all of our families that supported Hurricane Hustle. Our PTA donated $10,000.00 to HES which allowed us to purchase an additional 31 Chromebooks for student use.  Each classroom currently has 10 Chromebooks and we would like to continue increasing this amount per classroom until we are 1:1.  We so appreciate all that our PTA does for our staff and students.

Videos from PTA Parent Curriculum Night:

Thank you to the many parents that attended our recent Curriculum Night.  I hope you each found your session to be informative and beneficial in regards to making educational decisions for your child/ren.  If you were not able to attend below are video links to each of the sessions.

“RTA informational Session” – Grades 1, 2, 3

"Guidance for Middle School Math" – Grade 5

“SSA Parent Meeting Information” – Any Grade

Preparation for 2020-2021:

We are beginning to plan for next school and invite parents to be part of that process. Earlier this year we provided the opportunity for families to request a track change if they desired one for the next school year.  At this time I am inviting parents with students on a double track (Track 1 and 4 at many grade levels) to submit a letter to Dr. Tillery by March 31, 2020 describing the learning environment in which your child performs best. Do not use any teacher name as teachers may change grade and/or track, simply describe the environment in which your child will be most successful. These may be email to dtillery@wcpss.net or dropped off in the office by March 31, 2020.
