Principal Message Week of September 25 2022
Good afternoon Davis Drive Elementary families,
I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather we are having! It was so wonderful to see so many families out on a Saturday for our Grade Level Socials. Smiling children, connecting with old friends and making new ones is one of the things that make Davis Drive Elem. so special. Lots of good information below on upcoming events and needs.
Monday, September 26 is a teacher workday, no school for students.
Picture Day is October 13th! New this year: Opt-In Updates
All parents can opt-in to receive updates via email regarding their child's school portraits. These updates include promotions, additional deals and the ability to order more pictures at a later time. When entering student information, parents should be sure to enter the student's name as it is on file at the school. OPT-IN HERE!
Would you like to help the planet in 30 minutes right from DDE? Please consider helping children navigate composting. Training is available for all volunteers! View the sign-up here. Please contact Jessie at VPDDEPTA@gmail.com with your questions!
WRAL Viewers Choice Awards
The nominations for WRAL Viewers Choice Awards are open. Last year Davis Drive Elementary won in the category of best elementary school and our first grade teacher Mrs. Long won in the category of best teacher. How the process works is that the top 5 vote getters in nomination categories become the entries that get voted on in October. You can submit one nomination per category per day through Oct. 9 https://www.wral.com/2022-wral-voters-choice-awards/20405186/#//

Annually, our School Health Dental Hygienist looks for healthy smiles by providing kindergarten dental screenings. Please refer to the WCPSS student/parent handbook. Good dental health is important to a student’s overall well-being and affects a child’s success and performance in the classroom.
Hygienists use a flashlight to provide a quick visual screening of the student’s teeth, unlike a dental exam by a dentist.
During screening, the Dental Hygienist follows all guidelines put forth by the CDC, NC Oral Health Section, and WCPSS for precautions.
A letter with the screening results will be sent in student’s school folder ONLY if your child has questionable or obvious dental needs.
If you have any questions, please contact the school’s dental hygienist, Mary Lou Torbert, RDH, at
919-621-2482 or firstname.lastname@example.org
