Principal's Message Week of May 24, 2021

Davis Drive Elementary families,

 

Here we are with just a little over a week left in May! EOGs will be starting for grades 3-5 this week so please check your teacher’s emails/newsletters for any particular adjustments to your child’s schedule. On Tuesday June 1st we will have an outdoor PTA Meeting and a Q&A session with Mrs. Fair. We are still looking for volunteers for the positions of PTA President and Vice President. If you are interested please contact Jennifer Love(contact info on PTA newsletter below) or myself. 

 

Important Dates:

 

Wednesday May 26th- Remote Learning Day. Due to EOGs being administered  that day to VA students there will not be any morning meetings for classes. Attendance will be determined by work completion only. 

Monday  May 31st is Memorial Day, there is no school.  



Rising Kindergarten Orientation:

 

Rising kindergarten orientation will take place on Tuesday May 25th from 3:00-4:30pm. This event will take place outside and you will be able to tour a Kindergarten classroom. Please park on the side of the school (gym side) and there will be people and signs to guide you to the appropriate area.

News from the Media Center:

  • The last day of  Curbside Pickup is May 24th
  • All media center books are due NLT June 4th.  Common places to find lost books are:
    • Under your child's bed
    • In the backseat/backpocket of the car
    • In your child's desk or cubby
    • In the Lost & Found
    • In backpacks
    • In sibling's rooms
    • At a grandparent's house
    • At the babysitter's house
    • In bookshelves at home
    • On top of the TV
    • On top of the refrigerator
    • In closets
  • If a media center book is truly lost, you can now pay for it online here.
  • Our media center gerbils, Fred & George, are looking for a summer sleepover!  All of their food and supplies are provided and they are great with kids!  If you are interested in hosting them for the summer, please email Mrs. Fiedler at sfiedler@wcpss.net.

Please carefully review the schedule below. Students will test on different dates, depending on whether they are in person or Virtual Academy.

All students should bring their mask, a water bottle and a book each day of testing. 

WCPSS health and safety protocols will be followed.

 

Arrival:

 

Arrival time is 7:15 - 7:45. If you requested for your student to receive breakfast, please have them here by 7:30. We will have staff available to help students find their rooms.

 

Dismissal: 

 

Virtual Academy students being picked up directly after the test will call their parents when they have finished their test. Please make sure your child knows what phone number to call each day of testing. Pick up and drop off will be via our Carpool Loop.

 

Students who have selected to remain the entire day will be picked up at 2:15 each day except Wednesday, May 26 (Asynchronous Day). Pick up that day is at 12:15. Afternoon bus service for selected students will also be at 12:15 that day.

 

Families who choose not to send their child to school for testing due to COVID-19 will have their child marked absent for the day. Due to COVID-19, there is no penalty for a missed EOG exam.
