Principal's Message Week of April 25, 2021

April 23, 2021

Davis Drive Elementary families,

It is hard to believe that we have only 7 weeks of school left! Ms. Cutler and I had a great time visiting students from each grade who won the drawing from the Dreambox Math challenge. All students who complete 5 or more Dreambox Math lessons in a week will be entered into their grade level drawing for a home visit from us and a sign that can be displayed in a window, their room, or the lawn. Let’s all become math stars!

Symptom Screening Reminders:

While WCPSS has stopped doing temperature and question screenings when children arrive to school, we are relying on you to screen your children at home.

Students should not be in school if they are diagnosed with Covid 19, exposed to someone with Covid 19, instructed to quarantine, or if they are sick or experiencing any of these symptoms(new symptoms have been added):

  • 100.4 fever or higher
  • Sore Throat
  • New Cough
  • New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • New severe headache

Virtual Field

Since our calendar has changed recently, virtual field day has been moved from May 5th to May 13th. There are easy and fun activities for students and adults! Let’s all get in on the fun this year :) Mr. Guenther is organizing this event and sharing information with classroom teachers. Short videos explaining the events (that uses items in homes) will be on your child’s Google Classroom. Students can pick events they would like to do and log their results on a score card that can be picked up at the school, printed at home, or sent home. Since this event is on a remote learning day the activities for field day will be their learning for the day. So let’s get outside, move our bodies, and get energized!

EOG Testing for VA students

VA parents, you should have already received an email with a survey that you need to complete regarding EOGs. The deadline has passed but we still need to hear back from about 75 parents. If you have not filled it out please do so as soon as possible so we can finish our planning for EOGs for our VA students. If you can not find the survey please contact your child’s teacher and let them know.

To celebrate this day we will have a whole week celebration!

May 3rd: Crazy hat or Crazy hair day

May 4th: School Spirit Day

May 5th: Wacky Tacky Day

May 6th: Decades day- pick your favorite decade (60’s, 70’s, 80’s)

May 7th: Dress up as your favorite Superhero
