Davis Drive Elementary Principal's Message Week of March 1, 2021
March 1, 2021
Davis Drive Elementary Families,
Another great week here at Davis Drive Elementary! Ms. Mickle’s last day at DDES was Friday 2/26/21 and we wish her well on her retirement. After 35 years teaching she sure does deserve it! Which leads me to proudly announce our newest Dolphin, Trevor Guenther, who will be our new PE teacher. He is currently a PE teacher in Harnett County and will be starting here on March 12th. We will have a regular sub for those 9 days in PE for consistency.
This week:
- Cohort 1(A) returns to school.
- Wednesday, March 3rd is an asynchronous day
Carpool begins at 7:15 am. Please remember that we will need to complete the health screening prior to your child entering the building. Remember in cold weather to not bundle your child up or have the heat up very high when they are in the car on the way to school. This can give an inaccurate temperature and we will need to re-check twice before they may exit the car.
Breakfast
If you would like for your child to eat breakfast, please try to arrive as close to 7:15 am as possible. Classroom instruction begins at 7:45 am. If your student is eating breakfast at school, they should go straight to the cafeteria when they arrive and wait for the adult to let them into the cafeteria.
If your child is coming to school for face to face instruction for the first time this year, please read the Student Accountability Plan and Required Safety Protocols complete the form on the last page and turn in to your classroom teacher.
Bus Transportation
Bus riders are required to submit a one-time attestation form stating that they will abide by all health and safety protocols. Forms can be found at wcpss.net/busform. Riders who have already successfully submitted this form do not need to submit it again. We ask that students follow all safety guidelines, including wearing a face covering the entire time they are on the bus. Bus route information can be found at www.wcpss.net/routes.
Lunches
If you are bringing lunch to your child, please make sure that you arrive prior to their scheduled lunch time. We are following very strict health protocols in regards to eating/drinking. All children must eat at the same time in their classroom. If a child does not receive their lunch in time, we will have them get their lunch from the cafeteria.

The SSA Test Request window is currently open for Davis Drive Elementary. Honor a Teacher Nominations
Excellence in teaching – we know it when we see it. It can be the teacher who spends extra time with the students who need it most, or the teacher who is creative enough to inspire a real love of learning in a student. Perhaps it’s a teacher who cares enough to be involved with their students beyond the classroom. Whatever their methods, certain teachers make a real impact on students and their learning abilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has only highlighted the great importance of the role that teacher's play in our society.
We would like to recognize one such teacher and we need your help. The Cary Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in supporting education in our community through numerous programs and activities. One of the most critical needs of Wake County schools is that of attracting and retaining the best classroom teachers. With the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Honor a Teacher Program we hope to help our school system in meeting that challenge.
Building on the success of the Discovery Award first sponsored by the Ashworth family in 1991, followed by the Clara Knoll Award in 2000 by Barry and DJ Mitsch, the Cary Chamber has secured sponsors to develop a teaching awards program for all schools in the Cary Area.
We are asking our community to nominate teachers for this award. Included with your nomination, please describe why you feel this particular teacher deserves this award. Click here for the Nomination Form Nominations must be submitted no later than Friday, March 26th at 5:00pm. These nominations will then be narrowed down to finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee.
