Davis Drive Elem Week of May 10 Principal's Message

Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families.   This is the weekly message for the week of May 10, 2020.  Happy Mothers’ Day to all.  We hope that you will experience some quality time with your family. Speaking of mothers, our staff worked hard to collect photos of “back in the day” photos -  when we were younger than we are today.  Enjoy the video at Davis Drive Elementary Younger Years Video . At a later date, we plan to identify each person but in the meantime, you will need to guess at who these are.

Our teachers and staff are thankful for the recognitions by PTA and parents during this past week for teacher appreciation week.  Our staff is dedicated to our work and love our students.  Thank you to our PTA and school community for supporting Davis Drive Elementary.

Now that we know that our building is closed for the rest of the school year, we are developing plans for how and when students and their families can pick-up and drop off materials at our building.  We are working with our PTA as well those details and anticipate the date to be either at the end of May or at the beginning of June.  Plans that we develop need to be approved by our central services to ensure that we follow guidelines that are in place through the school system, the State of North Carolina, and the Town of Cary.  We will work to coordinate yearbook and fifth grade shirt pick ups to be on the same date.  We prefer for families to wait until this date to pick up any materials from school.  However, for time sensitive items such as  medications, we will work with families on an individual basis.  We are also making plans on how we will recognize our fifth graders as they leave elementary school.  Once plans are determined, details will provided in a future Weekly Principal's Message

We still have some Chromebooks available for families who need access to a computer for remote learning.  Feel free to email jmack@wcpss.net if you need a Chromebook.  Or, you can call the front office and leave a message at 919-387-2130 if you have a need for a Chromebook.

There have been a few families that have experienced difficulty with their children logging into their Google Classrooms because they get a message asking for a password.  WCPSS uses an Internet filter called Zscaler to block inappropriate websites while students use their WCPSS account. We are required by federal law to filter content on any district device. Your student may be prompted to sign into Zscaler. If so, they should use their full WCPSS WakeID (e.g., wakeid@students.wcpss.net) and follow the on-screen prompts. The filter is only enabled when the student is logged into the Chrome browser or Chromebook with their WCPSS account. It will stop filtering when the student logs out of their WCPSS account.  Additional questions regarding technical support can be found at https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/instructional-continuity-wcpss/technology-support-for-families?authuser=0

As we plan for next school year,  we need to know if families are not returning for the 2020 -2021 school year.  If you are not planning to return please complete the form Here and return it to our data manager by email at NCWISE390@wcpss.net Once you open the form, you may need to click on enable editing, and save the form with a new file name before sending through email.  The form is only for families who will not return to Davis Drive Elementary and for 5th graders who will not return to their assigned middle schools.  We do not need this information if you plan to return to Davis Drive Elementary or will attend your assigned middle school.  We typically send this request home on form at the end of the school year, but with school being closed, we are requesting that families provide this information through email.

WCPSS publishes regular updates about the school system related to Coronavirus.  These updates can be found at https://www.wcpss.net/coronavirus

Enjoy your Mothers' Day and have your child look for Dolphin Daily Clips during remote learning.  The Dolphin Daily Clips are short video segments featuring some office staff members providing interesting facts, thoughts, humor, or  information.  Let us know if you have any needs.
