DDE Principal Message Week of March 29

Hello Davis Drive Elementary school families.  We truly miss seeing our students daily and we look forward to returning to school as soon as possible.  We expect our community to follow the recommendations by our State leaders and medical professionals to follow social distancing and limit time beyond our own homes.  We hope that our families are well. If you have any needs, please let us know. Our current plan is for our students to use the school system resources to maintain a connection with school.  Teachers will reach out to families to determine any needs you may have to access technology. After our scheduled Spring Break, grade level teachers will provide online opportunities for students.  Currently our staff is meeting regularly to learn about online tools for teaching content.  

 

Our field trips for the remainder of the school year have been cancelled.  Processing refunds for field trips is a priority for our school, but it will take some time.  We need to follow guidelines by the WCPSS accounting department, request reimbursements for deposits, determine the costs of the trips that already occurred, and process refunds for all of our families.  Please understand that we are working on this and will get refunds to families as soon as possible.  

 

As we roll out online opportunities, please understand that for some of our staff the use of technology is a well-developed skill.  Others continue to learn how to use technology and online resources

 During this time, we want our families to focus on family needs.   Our school system will provide regular updates on our school website as well as the WCPSS website about the response of the school system.  You can find the most recent information at https://www.wcpss.net/Page/42068.  This link may provide answers to many questions. Currently our school building is closed for students and staff.  We cannot open the building for individuals at this time. Cleaning crews are working daily to clean the entire building and mobiles.  Please continue to balance activities to include reading and physical activities during the days away from school. 

 

With school being closed, Single Subject nominations will be delayed until further notice.  Our school system will provide more direction for this in the future. However, at this time we are not accepting SSA nominations.

After-School and Summer Camp payment due dates are on hold at this time.  Please do not pay for after-school until we provide additional information.  Registration for Summer Camp will be delayed until we know if the school system will adjust year-end calendars for students.   

 

Field trips have been canceled for the remainder of the school year.  Once we return to school, we will notify parents of the refund process for field trips that have been canceled.  Realize that providing details will take some time as we work with vendors that were contracted to provide services for field trips.  

 

 

Once we return to school, we will need to determine modifications that may need to be made for end of year activities including classroom celebrations, promotion to middle school, and school meetings. Our plan at this time is for students to return to school after May 15.  Please know that the safety of our students will be a priority in making these decisions.  

 

 

The fifth grade team has sent home information about Middle School Registration.  If you did not receive this information, please email your child’s teacher.

Our PTA is working with Strawbridge Studios to determine how yearbooks will be purchased and delivered.  We expect to provide online instructions soon. Please check our website regularly and let us know if your family has any needs that we can help with.
