Davis Drive Elementary Week of February 23
Hello davis Drive Elementary School. This is the weekly Principal’s Message for the week of February 23. We had some unexpected weather that caused school to be dismissed early this past Thursday and school was closed for students on Friday. Our school system determines changes in schedules based on factors that may impact our school district. The most important factor is the safety of our school community. Due to “banked time,” our students will not need to make up the day.
Our Carolina Hurricanes field trip was canceled due to weather and for many reasons we have been informed that the trip cannot be rescheduled. While we are disappointed that we were unable to attend. We understand that the schedule for the Hurricanes as well as the schedules for 8,000 students, bus drivers, and school staff are challenges that make rescheduling impossible. We are pleased that our school was selected and recognized by the Hurricanes for reading.
Our school is participating in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association (AHA). Donations to AHA can be made online only -- we are not accepting cash donations for AHA. We are excited to support this effort as a school community.
We appreciate the positive behavior that is demonstrated by our students on a daily basis. We expect our students to demonstrate kindness to others. It is important for students to report instances of negative behavior to our staff so that we can help our students demonstrate respect for others. Thank you to our families for supporting our school and encouraging students to always be respectful of others.
The district has released this year’s Single Subject Acceleration information. There is a link to the WCPSS SSA site on our school website under Wake County News. It can also be found here. The window for accepting traditional calendar test requests is March 23-27. Late requests can not be honored per district policy. The testing window for traditional schools is April 20-30. The following resources may help you to determine whether SSA is an appropriate option for your student:
- Parent PowerPoint with Voice Over - File must be downloaded and then “presented” in PowerPoint to enable sound. This is narrated by the district and has lots of good information.
- Parent FAQs.
