DDE Principal's Message - Week of January 19, 2020

Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families.  There will be no school on Monday, January 20 in recognition of the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday.  We hope that our families have a good extra day this weekend.

Our staff truly appreciated the lunch that was provided by our PTA this past Friday.  Thank you goes to Panera -- Park West for their contributions to this luncheon.

We are pleased that our third graders have worked hard to modify procedures in our cafeteria to increase our recycling efforts.  Parent volunteers and our Green Team have worked to assist students with emptying liquids into a sink before throwing away trash.  We have also noticed that at times our students dispose of perfectly good items that can be brought home. For example, if a student does not eat fruit that they bring to school or purchase in the cafeteria, they can bring it home.  We will expand the recycling efforts with a goal for all students to follow new procedures by the end of the school year. If you would like to help, please use the sign up at

Remeber that our PTA is collecting gently used books for Wake Up and Read.  Collection boxes are in the front lobby of the school. Please see information at

Upcoming events for this month include a staff workday on January 29.  The workdays are designated by the school district for teachers and staff to be involved in professional development.  Students will not attend school on January 29. Our PTA is planning to host a Spirit Night at the Apex Defy Gravity from 4:00 until 8:00 on January 29.

We continue to work on details regarding the Cool School Field Trip to the Carolina Hurricanes on February 20.  As additional details are finalized, we will keep parents informed. It was truly an honor to be selected to attend this field trip.

We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday.  Please help us by arriving on time daily.
