Davis Drive Elem. Week of January 12 Principal's Message
Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families. We appreciate that our third graders are working to help establish procedures to increasing recycling in our cafeteria. PTA volunteers have worked with our students and staff on the procedures and will continue to modify the procedures. Plans are to roll out this effort to all grade levels in the near future.
We are very excited about the upcoming field trip to the Hurricanes practice on February 20. We need to notify the Hurricanes and our central services some details about our field trip. The information is due from us to central services on Monday. In some cases field trip permission forms have not been returned to school. For example, a few students were absent and have not returned the forms. If you have not returned the field trip permission form, please send it to your child’s teacher on Monday. We need to arrange for the proper number of buses, work with our cafeteria staff to ensure that lunches will be available after the trip, and several other details. For students who opt not to attend, we will plan for at school instructional activities to take place. Teachers and staff will provide student supervision during the field trip. We have a limited number of tickets to the event and cannot bring additional volunteers to the event. It is an honor for our school to have been selected for this event scheduled for February 20.
As a reminder from a previous message, we remind families of our cell phone and smartwatch policy:
Student cell phone policy: students are only allowed to have cell phones on school grounds if they are turned completely off and kept in their backpack. Students are not allowed to use their cellphones during school hours or on the school bus. If a student has an internet connected smartwatch, that device must be turned on Airplane mode in order to disable text messages and phone calls from being received by the watch/device. Students may not use cell phones and smartwatches as cameras at school. Smartwatches are considered a cell phone UNLESS airplane mode is activated. Otherwise, all smartwatches will need to be powered off and placed in backpacks as well.
Please help us by arriving at school on time each day. Also remember that if you use the Davis Drive morning carpool entrance, please only turn right to exit our school on Davis Drive. It is helpful for students to arrive at school each day by 7:35.
Thank you to our parents and our PTA for supporting our school. We look forward to seeing our students on Monday. For Next Monday (January 20), there will be no school for students in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday.
