DDE Week of January 5 Principal's Message
Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families. We are excited about the opportunities that await us in the new calendar year and the opportunities we will have many years to come. We hope that you had a wonderful holiday break. As we return to school this week, let’s remind our children about the importance of supporting one another with kindness and respect. We have high expectations for our students and we want each day to contribute to learning and growth.
For third grade students we plan to implement a new procedure in our cafeteria. We will be adding this procedure for all grade levels, but thought it would be best to begin with the third graders who are in the cafeteria later than other grade levels. We have a sink near the trash bins and will ask that all students pour liquids from their trays into the sink before disposing of other items. This is a first step in separating waste from the cafeteria into a more environmentally friendly disposal process.
We always look forward to new families joining our community and anticipate several new enrollments in January. Also, as familles plan for next school year we are holding an open house for families who will join our school next school year. The open house sessions will be at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8. In addition to the open house, our PTA volunteers are planning to conduct school tours on various dates. If you know of a family moving to our area, we suggest that they call the school for a schedule of tours.
We are looking forward to our PTA sponsored cultural arts assembly on Thursday, January 9. The storyteller assembly profile states that the “performance challenges the audience to think outside of the box and outside of themselves and to look at the many ways they can use positive creativity to make the world around them more beautiful.”
Looking ahead, our PTA is planning PTA Spirit Night at Defy Gravity -- Apex for January 29.
Recently the Cary Police Department and our Security Department observed our arrival. The suggestion continues to be that cars only make right turns during arrival when exiting from the front carpool. While your destination may be to the left, it will be much safer for cars to turn right and turn around at the stoplight on Davis Drive.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and please remember that it is important to arrive at school on time. We suggest that carpool students arrive before 7:35.
