DDE November 17 Principal's Message

Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families.  The weather has turned cold and we decided to cancel our school clean up day that was planned for yesterday.  We appreciate those who had planned to help. Our PTA will sponsor another clean-up day in the spring.

This past Friday we had a Patriotic Day assembly.  Our students are to be complimented on their participation and excellent behavior during the assembly. We have also been impressed with photos and descriptions of family members who have served our country that were displayed in our font hallway.

We look forward to the PTA sponsored Book Fair beginning Monday of this week. . The Book Fair Family Night is on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Signups can be found here: Book Fair Family Night Volunteers 2019 and here:  Book Fair Volunteers 2019 We hope you will join us for our family Bingo night on Tuesday, November 19, from 5-8 pm.  Enjoy food from the food trucks, play some Bingo and buy some books! We'd appreciate it if families with students in K-2 could try to attend from 5-6:30, with grades 3-5 attending from 6:30-8.  And bring your reusable bags -- in an effort to be more environmentally conscious, we will not be using plastic bags this year.

PTA is sponsoring lunch for staff on Friday.  Please help our PTA provide a Chili Luncheon to honor our school's hard working, dedicated staff!  Please deliver your Chili Bar donation on Friday, November 22nd at 8am in the front office. All chili should be delivered hot. Please sign up HERE

Our Lost and Found has many items that we want to return to their owners.  If your child is missing a coat, jacket, water bottle, lunch box, or any other item please remind them to check the Lost and Found.  We do not have the storage space to maintain the Lost and found and will need to donate leftover items to charity if they are not claimed by their owners.  Here is a video link to the DDE current Lost and Found .

Safety is a high priority at our school and our staff works to ensure supervision of our students.  We are pleased that our parents follow our arrival and dismissal procedures and we remind our families that taking shortcuts to avoid the procedures makes it difficult for others.  I have heard from many parents about how turning left onto Davis Drive after dropping off students in the mornings is unsafe. It is best for all cars that use the front carpool line to exit our school by turning right onto Davis Drive during morning arrival.  Once on Davis Drive, there are areas beyond the school to turn around. Again, it is best to arrive at school in carpool by 7:35 each day. With buses leaving from the elementary school and arriving for the middle school between 7:35 and 7:45 traffic becomes very difficult at our entrance. When exiting during morning arrival, consider turning right only.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.  We look forward to seeing our students on Monday.
