DDE Principal's Message for Week of June 9, 2019

Hello Davis Drive Elementary School Families.  We have two days left of school and as I reflect on the school year, I feel that it has been very productive.  We are thankful for the PTA support and the support from our school community.  We hope that your summer break is filled with some extra family time.  Please continue to encourage your children to read throughout the break.  Our children worked hard this school year and we are proud of their accomplishments.

During the summer months, we still have some staff who work at school.  Often, we need to be away from the building for trainings and meetings, but we are available if needed.  We suggest that you call before you come by school during the summer if needed.

Report cards are to be sent home with students on Tuesday.

Davey Dolphin’s GREEN TEAM wanted to thank the DDE community for their participation in our various recycling programs. Two of our major achievements were that;

We saved 365lb of plastic bags from going into our landfills and waterways, and came 5th among other schools in our region (South East Elementary Schools) for the TREX plastic bag recycling challenge.

Also, we have compacted 84lb (38 kg) of chip bags and sent them to ‘Terracycle’ for recycling. This is the equivalent of 19,000 small or 5,000 large chip bags. We are very,very grateful for our volunteers; teachers, parents and students. We kindly ask that families continue to save items for recycling over the summer; clean dry plastic bags, chip bags, personal care items, ink cartridges and markers. Please separate and sort your items to help our volunteers. Once again Thank you so much for your support.

Before this school year ends, you can already cross one thing off your list for next year! School Supplies can be ordered online.  Please visit https://www.edukitinc.com/schools/12162/Davis%20Drive%20Elementary by 6/20 to place your order for 2019-2020 school supply kits.

Be sure to look at the Lost and Found video to find missing items that may be there.  We will donate these items to a charity soon.  The video can be viewed at https://www.wcpss.net/site/default.aspx?PageType=3&DomainID=9265&ModuleInstanceID=46760&ViewID=6446EE88-D30C-497E-9316-3F8874B3E108&RenderLoc=0&FlexDataID=152791&PageID=21500
