Principal's Message Week of November 25

Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families.  This is weekly message for the week of November 25, 2018.  We hope that your families enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday.  We look forward to a productive week ahead.  We are truly fortunate to be a part of a school that is supported by our community. Each day that I walk through the hallways of our school I notice students pursuing academics in many different ways.  Often our students work on projects, work in small groups, use technology, and are engaged in teacher planned activities to spark creativity and deeper thinking.  We are preparing our students for the future and we truly appreciate the support of our school community.

Recently our PTA sent home a flyer for the annual Movie Night on Saturday, December 15th from 5:00 until 8:00 pm.  This event is open to Davis Drive Elementary School students only.  If you are interested in your child attending, please complete the form and return it to school by December 7.  This is a popular event so return your forms soon.

Our recent book fair was a great success thank you to our PTA for the hard work that was provided for set up, orderly processes, and take down.  Volunteers for our PTA did an excellent job for our school.  We appreciate your dedication and organizational skills.  Thank you!

Remember that being on time to school helps our students develop positive habits for the future.  If you use carpool, try to arrive by 7:35 am.  The most difficult time for our carpool tends to be between 7:35 and 7:45, as buses are arriving and departing.  Making a right hand turn on Davis Drive will help avoid long lines to exit our parking lot.  Please turn right when exiting our carpool line and avoid turning left onto Davis Drive.

Personal Note about our Art Teacher, Debra Houck

When I started teaching at Davis Drive Elementary in 1996, I never knew I could love a job so much.  I am on my 24 year of teaching art, with 22 of those years here. I am a graduate of Meredith College in Art Education.  I became Nationally Board Certified in 2001 and received my Masters Degree, from Lesley University, in Integrating Art into the Curriculum in 2011.  I live in Cary with my 2 awesome kids and our black and white rescue dog, Oreo. My son, Cole, is a sophomore at Research Triangle High School. He stays busy running XC, indoor, and outdoor track.  My daughter, Camille, is in 7th grade at Davis Drive Middle. She loves to dance and being creative. During the summers, my kids and I have been fortunate to travel much of the United States. We’ve seen a lot and had many adventures, from whale watching in Washington State to eating lobster in Maine.  I have enjoyed the students year after year at Davis Drive Elementary, and feel blessed to teach with such a fabulous staff.
