DDE Principal's Message Week of November 18, 2018

Hello Davis Drive Elementary School families.  This is the weekly message for the week of November 18, 2018.  We have a very short week ahead as Tuesday is an Early Release Day.  On Tuesday, we dismiss at 11:45 am.  School will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week in recognition of Thanksgiving.  We wish for you and your family many opportunities to enjoy some extra time with family and friends.

We are very thankful for the support from families that we receive each and every day. We love our children and want all of our students to be successful.  Thank you to our PTA for the recent book fair.  Many volunteers contributed the success of the book. Thank you to all of the volunteers for making this a successful event.

When we return from our holiday week, third grade classes will go on a field trip to the Morehead Planetarium on Tuesday, November 27

For the next several weeks, I plan to provide some personal information about specialists at Davis Drive Elementary.  We want our parents to know additional information about the people your children are likely to see and interact with at school.

For this week our spotlight is in our Instructional Facilitator – Laura Linton.   Ms. Linton has provided the information below:

I am the Instructional Facilitator and Intervention Teacher here at DDES.  My job is to help all our teachers and students.  I love my job and can’t imagine doing anything else!  After working in several schools over several years in Wake County, I have decided that Davis Drive is home!

I am originally from South Eastern Cumberland County NC, near Fayetteville, and have lived in the Triangle since graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill (Go Heels!).  I live at home with my husband of 26 years and three rescue dogs.  I have one daughter who is living at home while she is finishing graduate school at NC State while her twin brother lives in Raleigh and is working now after his graduation from Clemson.  Our youngest daughter is a student at East Carolina University.

We love spending time in the mountains and visit the Asheville area every couple of months.  I love to read and I always have more than one book going at the same time.  I have been in the same book club for over 10 years.  I love being in a book club as it forces me to read things that I would not normally pick up. .

I also enjoy working with local animal rescue organizations, long walks and hikes, interior decorating, and most of all, spending time with my family.
