DDE Principal's Message for week of October 7
Hello Davis Drive Elementary School Families. This is the weekly Principal’s Message for the week of October 7, 2018.
On Wednesday, October 10 our school will participate in National Walk To School Day. We know that some of our bus riders need the bus to get to school. All of our buses will operate on a normal schedule. We welcome families to consider walking or biking to school on Wednesday, October 10. This is a way to provide an example of developing healthy habits for our students. The walk to school day may be used as a conversation starter with your children. For example, you may ask your children other things that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Healthy habits lead to healthy bodies and healthy minds. For the last several years we have seen excellent participation for Walk To School Day. We anticipate several community leaders to join our students and families as they walk to school.
Thank you to parents for getting students to school on time. So far this school year we have very few tardies. Please remember that it is best to arrive at school before 7:35 each day. It makes positive impact on learning as students arrive at school in plenty of time to be ready for the school day. Please remember that students should not arrive at school before 7:15 am. Staff members are on duty at 7:15 am. We cannot allow students to be unsupervised waiting at the front before the 7:15.
We remind parents that when visiting our school, visitors (including parents) need to check in at the office and wear a visitors badge while in the building.
Recently, our third grade students and staff have been involved in a book drive to support Read and Feed. Donations to Read and Feed will end this week.
Our Physical Education classes will participate in Fitness testing soon and we need parent volunteers to help. If you are interested and are a cleared WCPSS volunteer. Please consider being a Fitness Testing Volunteer for our P.E. classes. If you are interested, click on the link and find an open slot to fill! We are looking forward to our first Cultural Arts Assemblies of the school year on this coming Friday. A group called Number Drummers will perform and get our students involved in drumming while in the gym.
A Personal Note About Our School Receptionist Jennifer Kaczynski: My husband and I took a chance as newlyweds and moved to Cary 19 years ago from Long Island, New York. It has been one of the best decisions we have made. We have been married for 20 years and have two beautiful daughters. Meghann is a senior at Green Hope High School. Sarah is a freshman at Green Hope. Prior to starting a family I worked in a law firm as a Paralegal. I enjoy spending time with my family. We like hiking in the mountains as well as relaxing at the beach. I started working at Davis Drive in 2011. Though I have worked in different areas at DDE I truly enjoy working as the receptionist. I have come to know many students and families throughout the past year. I look forward to getting to know many more.
