To All Carpenter Elementary Parents,

We apologize that school had to be dismissed early yesterday due to the air conditioner breaking. It took longer than expected to get the part needed from the contractor and installed. Thank you for your supportive and swift action to pick up your children. Our chiller is fully functional now! Here are a few updates that we wanted to make you aware of:

Tracking Out

Track 2's last day with us is Friday, August 18th, as they will be tracking out.

Tracking In

We look forward to Track 3 tracking back in with us on Monday, August 21st.

PTA’s Kindergarten Parent Breakfast

The PTA has hosted two Kindergarten Parent Breakfasts and we were overjoyed at the high attendance. Not only were the events well attended but there was such a community atmosphere. Our parents were social and spent time getting to know others. Now we know why we have such a good Kindergarten cohort.

Kindergarten Dental Health Screenings

Annually, our School Health Dental Hygienist looks for healthy smiles by providing kindergarten dental screenings. Mr. Spirakus and Ms. Lunsford's classes will have their dental screenings done this week. Good dental health is important to a student’s overall well-being and affects a child’s success and performance in the classroom. Our School Dental Hygienist uses a flashlight to provide a quick visual screening of the student’s teeth, unlike a dental exam by a dentist. During a dental screening, the School Dental Hygienist follows all CDC guidelines. A letter with the screening results will be sent home ONLY if your child has questionable or obvious dental needs. If needed, children with obvious dental needs may receive an additional follow-up screening by the School Health Dental Hygienist later in the school year. If you have any questions, please contact the school’s dental hygienist, Mary Lou Torbert, RDH, at 919-621-2482 or mtorbert@wcpss.net.

PTA's Painting Project Completed

We are so grateful to all our parents and our AMAZING PTA! Because of your tangible support of our PTA's Boosterthon program, our school has had a massive facelift. Our Media Center was painted and updated with school colors of green and yellow to match our cafeteria and gym areas. The blue hallway by the cafeteria and gym was repainted as it had become worn and faded with time. The 4th and 5th grade hallway was also repainted which brightened the look and vibe of our upstairs area. The interior of all Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms were repainted and a bold yellow accent color was added to each room. Our school looks so fresh and colorful!! Thank you.

PTA Spirit Night

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for our PTA's Spirit Night at Dairy Queen on Monday, August 21st. 10% of all the proceeds will be donated to our PTA which enhances your children's educational experiences. Plus it's just plain fun to spend time with other families and our teachers!

Picture Day

Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22nd for Tracks 3 & 4. Lifetouch forms will be sent home to order these optional school pictures. Students will need to prepay for these pictures. Many thanks to our PTA volunteers for their organization and assistance on these Picture Days.

Green Hope High School Football Game

One of our previous PTA presidents, Wendi Lester, reached out to us regarding a Green Hope High School football game on Friday, August 25th. The Green Hope High School Athletic Booster Club wants our families to come and cheer for the Green Hope Falcons when they play the Athens Drive Jaguars! Our chameleons can show their school spirit by wearing a Carpenter Elementary shirt or spiritwear that will give them a free admission with a paid adult.  The schools that are represented during the game will be recognized.

The Booster Club will be hosting a Tailgate Party before the game from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm!  Hotdogs, hamburgers, vegan burgers, chips and beverages will be for sale supporting the Athletic Booster Club and the Band Booster Club.

Let's start our GHHS pride as many of our students will be future scholars at this reputable high school. Go falcons!

Camp Chameleon's Workday

Join us Saturday, August 26th, for our next Camp Chameleon workday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.  We will be doing some general cleanup and pruning. There's always lots to do and ways to lend a hand to help keep our amazing outdoor learning space in tip-top shape! All are welcome!

The Cary Teen Council will also be on-site to help us. Water and popsicles will be provided! Please sign up here

New Music Teacher

Mr. Grant Spears will be joining our school family at the end of the month. Our new Music Teacher, Mr. Spears, will start on August 28th. Let's give him a huge chameleon welcome when he starts.

Family Fun Night

Our PTA sponsors the best events but my all time favorite is the Family Fun Night. Bring your whole family to school on Friday night, September 8th. There will be inexpensive activities for the children, food for purchase and so much more.

Interim Principal

Mrs. Nannette Lavery will become Carpenter Elementary's Interim Principal starting on September 1st. Mrs. Lavery is a retired WCPSS principal with elementary and year-round experience. She retired from North Forest Pines Elementary which is a year-round school in Raleigh, NC.

New Principal

The WCPSS school board should be approving our permanent principal tonight at a board meeting. It is expected that the permanent principal will begin at Carpenter in mid September. Expect an introduction letter from the new principal tonight or early tomorrow.

Dog Free Campus

There are signs throughout our campus that Carpenter Elementary is a dog free area. Please do not walk your dogs on our campus during the school day or bring your dogs through our carpool lane. All it takes is one loud or unexpected noise for your pet to become protective of you. We have had a dog jump out of a car and bite one of our teachers in the past. Our teacher had to seek medical treatment for the dog bite. Thanks for helping us keep everyone safe.

Have a good rest of the week.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Fay Jones
