To All Carpenter Families,

 

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. We hope everyone is as excited as we are to start the new school year. With much enthusiasm, we welcome back 1^st through 5^th graders on Tracks 1-3 on Tuesday, July 11^th  and Track 4 on Monday, July 31^st.

 

Kindergarten has staggered entry but we look forward to seeing all of these students on Tuesday, July 18^th for Tracks 1-3 and Monday, August 7^th for Track 4. Below are some essential points for the start of the school year:

 

 

Meet the Teacher

Families on Tracks 1-3, with students in 1^st through 5^th grade, are invited to attend Meet the Teacher today:

 

Track 1 = 2:30 pm

Track 2 = 3:00 pm

Track 3 = 3:30 pm

 

Track 4 families, with students in 1^st through 5^th grade, are invited to attend the Meet the Teacher event on Friday, July 28^th at 2:30 pm.

 

 

PTA 

Please join our Parent Teacher Association this year. By joining our PTA, you are providing beginning of the year grants for classroom teachers and rich cultural arts programs throughout the year. 

 

 

School Hours

Our bell schedule is 9:15 am to 3:45 pm.  Students can arrive as early as 8:45 am but need to be in their classrooms by 9:15 am when the instructional bell rings. Students will be dismissed at 3:45 pm.

 

Students need to stay in vehicles with their parents until the bell rings at 8:45 am. Parents are NOT allowed to drop students off until 8:45 am. We do not have supervision to watch the students until 8:45 am.

 

 

Press

There will be many news crews and press on campus tomorrow morning covering all the excitement with the first day of school.

 

 

Buses

All upcoming Kindergarten students were registered for a bus upon registration. To register for a bus, fill out this request. The most important thing to do is to inform your child’s teacher about how you want your child sent home. Unless it is in writing from a parent, we cannot change a child’s mode of transportation.

 

 

Carpool

Families that want to drive their children to school can easily do so in the mornings but will need a carpool number in the afternoons to pick them up. The same carpool numbers that students obtained last year will be their carpool numbers for this year. However, we do have new carpool tags so pick up a new one at the Meet the Teacher event or between 8:45 am and 9:15 am in the front office. Here is the form to secure a carpool number if you are new to our school.

 

Remember to practice with your child getting in and out of their car seat so that the flow of carpool is not halted with you getting out of the car daily to buckle your child in.

 

Please refrain from having dogs in your personal vehicle during carpool. In the past, we had a dog jump out of a car and bite one of our teachers so please keep all dogs at home.

 

 

Walkers

Families that desire to walk their children home will need to pick up their children through the cafeteria. Parents will be given a form to fill out upon arrival. Be prepared to show your driver’s license.

Staggered Entry

Kindergarten students will only attend school one assigned day during the first five days of school. This way students can learn the Carpenter way in small groups, complete assessments, and learn to navigate directions within their new class. Your child’s teacher will provide you with your child’s assigned day.

 

 

Calendar

Attached is a copy of our school calendar. 

 

 

Purple Days

There are three days this year that are designated as Teacher Workdays for all tracks. These protected days are secured so that our staff may participate in Professional Development. These days are:

• November 7^th
• January 2^nd
• June 19^th

 

Medications/Health Assessments

State law requires all students to be up to date with the required immunizations. Do not send your child to school with medications as they must be signed into the school office. If your child has allergies, chronic health conditions or other special medical needs email our school nurse, Tammy Hudson, at thudson@wcpss.net, to set up a health care plan.

 

 

Painting

Due to the generosity of our parents, through the PTA’s Boosterthon, we are scheduled to have parts of our interior school painted in August. We will share more details as the date gets closer.

 

 

Technology

All of our students will be assigned a chromebook. This year, WCPSS Kindergarten and first grade students will leave their laptops at school.
