Good Evening Carpenter Families,

I trust this email finds you well and that you enjoyed your weekend. Here are a few school updates:

Bus Accident

This afternoon, there was a slight fender bender with the Purple Bus on Parkman Grant Drive in Cary. When Mr. Miller and I arrived on scene there was only one student left on the bus. We so appreciate our PTA Board Member, Carrie Smith, for coming to the bus stop to communicate with school administration and transportation personnel. If any of the students that were on the school bus, at the time of the accident, have any medical needs please reach out to us. We are here to help and are so grateful no one was injured!

Principal Input Session

Mark your calendars for Monday, June 5th at 6:30 pm.  Our Area Superintendent will host a parent input session to collect feedback on what parents are looking for in your next principal.

Remediation & Retesting Days

For students in grades 3-5 that do not pass their End of Grade Tests, June 5th and June 7th (Track 1 Only) will be used to remediate and retest students who have qualifying grades that were expected to pass.  June 29th and June 30th (Tracks 2-4) will be utilized for remediation and retesting of students who have qualifying grades that were expected to pass. Save these dates on your calendar and please ensure that your children can attend if they do not receive the minimal passing score on the EOGs. Transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided for students invited to Remediation and Retesting Days.

Intent to Return

We need to plan our staffing needs for the next school year. Please respond to this email if your family plans to move or does not intend to return to Carpenter for the 2023-2024 school year. Your plans help us make our plans. We hired two extra teachers last school year and it was challenging to move teachers around after the school year started. Please communicate your plans so that we can secure high quality staff for your children.

Track Change

We received 25 track change requests for next school year. We were able to grant 24 of the requests. Due to class size laws, we were not able to grant one request but we are keeping it on file in case a student moves and/or a space becomes available.

Meal Prices

To keep up with rising food costs, lunch prices will increase (25 cents) to $3.25 next school year. Breakfast costs will remain at $1.50. Free and reduced lunch forms can be accessed through the front office and online

Can't wait to finish the week strong with your children!

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Fay Jones
