Good Afternoon Carpenter Families,
There have been so many exciting things happening at school, that we simply cannot contain our enthusiasm any longer. Below are some of the school updates that we wanted to share:
*Be Like CARY: Recently, we had a wonderful CARY Celebration to recognize Tracks 2 & 4 students for their leadership in modeling Respect in their classrooms. Congratulations to Katie Agee, Aria Shah, Dantrell Williams, Sunwoo Kim, Hanshit Sreee Nanda Kunammeni, Nishka Bavanka, Zanaa Jayesh, Mia Henderson, Abel Gonzalez Reyna, Jisu Yoon, Rohin Nath, Noelle Mease, Nicholas Mak, Yashu Challa, William McCuen, Pranavi Sunkara, Eliana Jenkins, Tiyasha Dey, Nicholas Bratcher, and Kyle Polo.
*PTA’s Boosterthon: Because of you and your support, the PTA’s Boosterthon fundraiser was a smashing success. We met the goal and raised over $26,000 with corporate matching donations. We were so elated at the family support. Not only did the PTA raise enough for the Digital Marquee Sign, but we thoroughly enjoyed having so many families come to school for the Fun Runs. These were such community lifting events. We are so grateful to each of you!
*Teacher Appreciation: From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making our staff feel so special during National Teacher Appreciation Week. All the handwritten notes, flowers, gift cards and thoughtful gestures gave everyone such a skip in their steps. The PTA spoiled us with a breakfast and delicious lunch from Tazikis! It was such a fun filled week of surprises and we know that everyone went out of their way to express appreciation.
*Kindergarten Orientation: We are really looking forward to our Kindergarten Orientation for the 2022-2023 school year. Tomorrow night, May 16th, at 5:30 pm, we will welcome all families with rising Kindergarten students to come to our school with their future chameleons. Sign in at your assigned track table, in the lobby, to receive pertinent information about Staggered Entry and School Supplies. We will start our Orientation together in the gym, then we will have our rising Kindergarten students transition to the classrooms with our Kindergarten Teachers and Instructional Assistants.
*Track Assignments: Track assignments for families, in Virtual Academy and those that applied for a track change, have been mailed out. As previously communicated, due to class size mandates and building capacity, we could not grant many of the requests. We simply do not have the space to have a triple track of track 4, on any grade level, to accommodate all the requests. Every track has its advantages and offers breaks throughout the calendar year.
*Parent Survey: Thank you for taking our WCPSS Parent Survey for each child you have in attendance at Carpenter Elementary. Because of you, we had 453 surveys completed. This is more than we have ever received! This will provide excellent data and feedback for our grade level teams. Once the results are published, we will share them.
*Elections: Tuesday is Election Day so be aware that our parking lot may have limited spaces. The general public will be accessing our gym for voting. Adjust your schedule to plan for a congested carpool lane with many cars coming and going during arrival and dismissal time.
*Honor a Teacher: A special congratulations to our second grade teacher, Mr. Matthew Spirakus, for winning Cary Chamber’s Honor a Teacher Award. It was such a pleasant surprise for him to win this recognition and $1,000 prize. It’s unbelievable to think one teacher in each Cary school earned this award and the generous monetary prize. Cary is indeed a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family!
*Meet the Teacher: We invite families to come, with their children, to meet their new teachers on the assigned Meet the Teacher nights. We had to shift Track 1’s Meet the Teacher to May 31st. This change was needed because our EOG test dates changed due to the remediation/retesting requirements. We didn’t want to have an evening event the night before Track 1 students take their EOG tests. Revised dates are below. Only Track 1’s date was changed.
*COVID Testing: WCPSS is pausing COVID testing due to EOG testing. Therefore, MAKO will only be testing students on the following days:
You can sign your child up for this pool testing here.
*Field Day: We are looking forward to our upcoming Field Days. Sign up here to volunteer. Here are the dates:
*School Choice for the 2022-2023 School Year: Please let us know if you are moving, going to another school, or not returning next school year. When you move within the Wake County Public School System, our Data Manager, Mrs. Jamison, gets notified weekly of changes to our enrollment projections. However, if you move out of county or state, or enroll for a private or charter school, we need you to let us know. You can simply respond to this email to notify us. But letting us know your plans for next year, we can ensure that we do not over or under hire with teachers for next year. The last thing we want is to hire teachers and then lose them because we didn’t have enough students to keep them.
*PTA Spirit Night: The PTA’s June Spirit Night will be Sunday, June 5th from 6 pm to 8 pm. You don’t want to miss it as it will be at the Triangle Rock Club of Morrisville. Our school will have the gym to ourselves! It will cost $15 per climber, which includes 2 hours of climbing, rental harness, and event staff to belay. There is no climbing experience needed. The PTA will receive part of the proceeds, depending on how many participants (climbers) we have.
Sign up here.
Have a great week and thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education.
