April 10, 2021
Good Morning Carpenter Families,
Hope you enjoyed extended time with family over your track-out. Team Carpenter is excited to return and start the fourth quarter. Below are some updates that we wanted to share:
*Reflections Arts Program: We received 9 entries for the NC PTA Reflections Arts Program. We are so proud that all of our chameleon submissions advanced to the county level. At the county level, Eera Bhawe, won 2nd place in Original Music Composition in the Intermediate Division. Uma Bhawe also one 2nd place in the Primary Division of Visual Arts.
*Enrollment: We have 39 additional students returning to Plan A for the fourth quarter. This results in 326 students or 47% of student enrollment receiving face-to-face instruction. We still have 369 students or 53% of student enrollment receiving remote instruction through Virtual Academy. We were able to transition students into Plan A classes easily in 1st through 5th for the fourth quarter. However, in Kindergarten, we had more requests for Plan A than we had seats. Therefore, Mrs. Giles and Mrs. Goodwin, will be teaching students concurrently online and in person for the last 47 days of school.
*Picture Day: Monday, April 12th, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, we will offer another opportunity for your child to get an individual picture taken to memorialize this historic year. All you have to do is sign up for an appointment and drop your child off at the front of the school off Morrisville Parkway and then pick your child up from the bus loop area on Louis Stephens Drive. The whole process takes ten minutes and we would ensure 6 feet of social distancing is maintained. Since this is a workday, there wouldn’t be other students on campus so it limits the amount of people your child/children would be around. Sign up here. Go to mylifetouch.com with the ID #EVTG8RFHW to purchase pictures.
*Materials’ Pick-Up: On Tuesday, April 13th, we will have our fourth quarter materials pick-up for Virtual Academy students. Kindergarten through 2nd grade materials can be picked up 10:00 to 11:30 am and 3rd through 5th grade families can come between 12:00 to 1:30 pm. If you have multiple children, just come once and we will give you all the materials. If you can’t come on Tuesday, you can pick up your materials in the office later in the week.
*Health Screenings: On-site health screenings will no longer be conducted. We are counting on everyone to help keep our school community healthy by keeping children home that are not feeling well or have been diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19. Children should not be in school if they have been diagnosed with COVID-19, instructed to quarantine, or if they are sick or experiencing any of these symptoms:
- Fever of 100.4 or higher
- Sore throat
- New cough
- New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
- Diarrhea or vomiting
- New severe headache
If one child in a household has one of these symptoms, all children in the household must be kept home. Don’t send your children back to school until they have been symptom free for 24 hours.
*Return to School: If your child experiences any of these symptoms at school or is sent home with an upset stomach from nausea, his/her siblings will be sent home as well. In addition, your sick child must meet one of the three criteria for returning to school: a negative PCR COVID-19 test, has an alternative diagnosis from a doctor, or has quarantined at home for several weeks.
*Plan A Attendance: There have been some changes to the attendance policy for the remainder of the school year, which includes the following:
If a Plan A student does not physically attend, the student is marked absent per policy 4400. If a student is not physically attending for reasons that would be considered excused under Section C of Policy 4400, then the student should be marked absent as unexcused.
If a Plan A student requires quarantining due to a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 or exposure, the student should be marked absent-excused, similar to a student who is absent for any of the reasons in Section C of Policy 4400. Any students who are absent for excused reasons, per Policy 4400, should be provided remote learning access.
*Carpool Reminders: Students must stay in their cars until the 8:45 am bell rings. Students cannot gather at the outside of the front door of the school before this as there are not staff there to supervise them. Staff will supervise students getting in and out of their cars but cannot open car doors for students this year. For safety reasons, students should exit on the passenger side of the car since we have two lanes in our carpool loop. Do not pass cars that are loading and unloading in the carpool lane. It is safer, if cars stay in line and exit in the order that they entered the carpool area. Remember to keep your dogs at home as we did have a teacher bitten by a dog when he jumped out of a car a few years ago. The teacher did leave school to receive medical care for the wounds. Kindergarten families need to teach and practice with their children how to fasten and unfasten their car seats. It delays the carpool line significantly when a parent has to get out of the car to do this for a child. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
*Boosterthon: Our annual PTA fundraiser for technology begins on April 29th and goes through May 7th. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to outfit all our classrooms with interactive Promethean Panel TVs. These Panel TVs allow teachers to project presentations from their laptops to the large screen for students to view. The interactive tools allow students and teachers to finger touch to slide and move content, pictures, and text. They can also highlight and write on the panel with their finger as they dissect mathematical word problems or break down complex reading text. Read here for more details.
*Asynchronous Days: There are several upcoming asynchronous days that all students will work remotely. This means that there are no live meetings and no students will be on campus. These days are:
- Wednesday, April 21st
- Wednesday, May 5th
- Wednesday, May 19th
- Wednesday, May 26th
There are no scheduled asynchronous days in June.
*Raleigh Dance Program: Our 2nd and 3rd graders are in for a treat as they will experience a Raleigh Dance Studio show on May 4th. This cultural arts program will provide our students an opportunity to experience ballet. This dance performance will be viewed virtually at 2:45 pm for Virtual Academy and Plan A students.
*Yearbook: The PTA is working hard to put together a yearbook for our school. If you haven’t had or don’t intend to get your child’s picture taken by Lifetouch, we need you to submit a picture of your child. If neither of these are done, your child will not be featured in the yearbook. Let us know if you do not want your child’s picture included in the yearbook. More details can be found here.
