Kindergarten Staggered Entry

Please see additional information about our Kindergarten Staggered Entry as well as what to expect for our rising kindergarten families here.

Join Us For Open House

1st-5th Grade Open House, which is Thursday, August 22 from 4:30pm-7pm, is the perfect time to receive helpful information from teachers, find the location of your child’s classroom, speak with someone from the transportation office, receive carpool tags if you are new to Apex Elementary, gather information from PTA and more.  The Kindergarten “Meet the Teacher" will take place on Friday, August 30 from 8:00 to 8:45 am. Please note that the first full week of school for Kindergarten students will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

Understanding the initial “Open House” event will not offer you time to learn the workings of your child’s classroom, there will be an additional opportunity at “Meet the Teacher” night.  This event is more intimate and allows you an opportunity to get to personally know your child’s teacher, ask questions, share concerns etc. These events are scheduled on Thursday, September 19 for grade 3rd-5th and Thursday, September 26 for grade K-2.  Both events will be from 5:00 to 6:30.

Bell Schedule

The school’s bell schedule will remain the same as last year which is 9:15 to 3:45. Students may enter the building at 8:50 am and the instructional day will start at 9:15 am. All students are expected to be in class by the tardy bell.  Please do not drop your child off before 8:50 am since your child’s safety is important to us and we will not have supervision for students until 8:50am. If you arrive after 9:15 a.m. you must come to the main office with your child to sign them in for the day.  Our school day ends at 3:45 pm. If you are interested in arranging on-campus before and after school care provided by the YMCA, please call 919-657-9622 to make arrangements.

Please make sure your child’s teacher knows how your child will be getting to and from school each day. If there is a change to how your child will go home, it is critical that you submit the change in writing to your child’s teacher. For safety reasons, no transportation change will be made via phone.  All afternoon checkouts need to occur before 3:25 pm as to not interfere with the dismissal process.

Each morning beginning at 8:50 am, staff members will be on duty in the carpool area to open car doors and greet students. Please assist us in making sure the carpool line moves smoothly and efficiently by following the traffic patterns when entering and leaving campus.  We ask that you enter and exit making right turns only.  At the end of the day, all of our carpool students will come to the designated area under the shelter and go to their car when their carpool number is called. Everyone with a carpool tag should display their carpool number until students have safely entered the car. Children may only get into a car that displays their carpool number on the official AES carpool tag.  Please be sure to pick up your carpool tags, if you are new to Apex Elementary, during the “Open House” events.

Drivers without carpool tags will be asked to park, bring in photo identification and come to the office to check out the student.

Please ensure that you have registered your child to ride the bus for the 2019-2020 school year if you plan on them doing so - this can be done here. Information about bus routes should be posted here by August 16. Each afternoon, we will also tweet the times each bus departs so make sure you follow us on Twitter @aes_bus and @apexescougars. We also recommend that you download and utilize the Here Comes the Bus app for daily communication about bus route schedules.

Supply lists for each class will be posted on the school’s website.
