August 28 Message to Families

Hello Families! You are receiving this message because your child is enrolled to attend Pleasant Grove for the 2022-2023 school year.  I am excited to welcome you and your child to the school!

What this week of school will look like:

Monday, August 29: First Day of School.  Pleasant Grove opens at 8:45 AM for students.  If your student will ride the bus, please be at the bus stop at least ten minutes early. Be patient.  You can check for updates about morning buses at

Early Dismissal:  Friday, September 2 is an Early Dismissal Day.  School ends at 1:45 PM.  Please be present to pick your child up at the bus stop or carpool early on Friday.

New Families:  I am excited to welcome you and your child to the Grove!  Click here for a virtual overview about each grade at Pleasant Grove.

School Supplies:  School Supply lists are now posted on the school website for each grade level.  Visit

Kindergarten Staggered Entry:  For the week of August 29 – September 2 Kindergarten students will only attend one day of school.  A letter with an invitation for the specific date your Kindergarten student will have Staggered Entry was mailed to families who registered by July 31.  If you did not receive a letter, please contact the school and ask to speak with Ms. Greene.

Student Meals:  Breakfast costs $1.50.  Lunch is $3.00.  Meals will be at no cost to students who qualify for free or reduced price meal benefits.  Families can apply for free or reduced-price meals online by visiting .  Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535 or 919-856-2920 or emailing .

Carpool:  Carpool enters and exits the school at Pleasant Grove Church Road.  Cars follow the stacking lane that goes straight by the big playground so that traffic does not back up onto Pleasant Grove Church Road.   Do not stop in the school driveway and create a hazard.  Parents make sure your child is ready to exit from the passenger side when you reach the school entrance. Your child should exit and enter your car from the passenger side. Pull all the way down to the furthest point to load/unload.  For safety, do not attempt to pass around cars because this creates unsafe conditions for everyone.

Bus Transportation:  Families should access the WCPSS website at for the most up-to-date information about 2022-2023 bus services.  Each afternoon we post bus departure times on our school bus twitter @pgesbuses.  If your child will ride the bus, be at your bus stop early and be patient as new students are getting use to riding a bus and routes are being adjusted.

Bus Conduct:  WCPSS will enforce a Code of Conduct for students who ride school bus transportation. Look for additional information coming home with your child. Students who cannot follow the code of conduct will lose bus riding privileges.

Early Checkout: If you find it necessary to check your child out of school early, you must do so before 3:15 PM. You must show a photo id when you arrive to check your child out of school. For the safety of all our students, our office staff will ask to see a photo ID before releasing a child to anyone.

Transportation Changes: If you have an emergency transportation change that you can’t request in writing, please call the school office at 919-694-8770 prior to 2:30 PM so we can notify your child’s teacher. Please do NOT send an e-mail to the teacher during the school day to request a transportation change. He or she might not read your e-mail until after dismissal.

Dismissal: School Dismissal begins at 3:45 PM.  Carpool lines up in the stacking lane from Pleasant Grove Church Road.  During the first weeks of school carpool dismissal can be slow as students learn this routine.  Buses dismiss as they arrive at school to be loaded.  Bus dismissal can be impacted by delays at other schools, traffic, and bus driver availability.

School Communications:  Pleasant Grove sends messages to families through email and texts so look for these messages to stay informed.  You can set preferences for notifications at  Additional information is shared on the school website at

Birthday Parties:  Pleasant Grove cannot accommodate requests for birthday parties at school. Adults should plan birthday parties, special treats, cake, cupcakes, and candies for their children at home or at a non-school location.

Wellness:  If your child is not feeling well, or experiencing COVID-like symptoms, then they should stay home.  Isolation requirements are listed online at  Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and healthy!

Volunteers:  If you completed the WCPSS volunteer registration process in the 2021-2022 school year your status is still active.  If you are a new family, or did not register last year, you need to complete volunteer registration.  You can complete this process at any WCPSS school during hours while school is in session.

Student Technology Questions or Concerns?:  If you have trouble with your district assigned device call Student Tech Help at 919-664-5700 or visit

Before/Afterschool Care:  Raleigh Parks & Recreation provides on-site before and after school care at PGES.  You can contact Parks & Rec at 919-996-6165 or visit

Parent Teacher Association (PTA):  Most families join the PTA as a way to support their child’s school. The PTA organizes special activities for students, provides resources for teachers, and hosts events for families.  Join for $5.  Visit

PTA DanceFit Fundraiser:  The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will have another DanceFit Fundraiser for students this year. Our goal is to raise $16,000 for a new sun shade for the school playground.

We need your support to make these sun shades something that our students can enjoy.  We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now.

You can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at Sharing IS supporting! All students will participate in the Pleasant Grove DanceFit, regardless of financial participation.

The DanceFit event will occur on September 23.  More details about when registration opens and how you can support this activity will be shared soon.

Pleasant Grove Elementary is located at 3605 Pleasant Grove Church Rd, Morrisville, 27560.  The number for the office is 919-694-8770.  If you call and find that the number is busy, please leave a message and someone will follow up with you.  Additional information about the start of the school year will be shared in the upcoming days.  Email me if you have questions.  You can reach me at
