Here is the Pleasant Grove Weekly Message for January 10 - 14
What this week of school will look like:
Students will begin completing mid-year reading assessments with their homeroom teachers this week. These assessments are not graded. Instead, they are used to see how well your child has progressed with their reading skills.
Students who attend in-person instruction should wear face coverings and bring a water bottle to school.
Friday, January 14 is a School Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to wear their Pleasant Grove spiritwear and school colors.
The Positivity theme for this week is Prudence.
There will be no school on Monday, January 17 or Tuesday, January 18, as the school observes the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Pleasant Grove Celebrates Student Art Work
Kudos to Ms. Blanchard, our Visual Arts Teacher, and our many talented, amazing students! Recently, artwork from Pleasant Grove students was put on display at the WCPSS District Board Room and also at locations for UNC Healthcare in the area! Hamin Lee a student in Mrs. Raynor's second grade class has been selected to represent PGES in the prestigious Gifts of Gold program recognizing students across Wake County this year.
COVID Quarantine & Exposures Guidance
Important information for families about NEW COVID-19 quarantine and isolation requirements is available on wcpss.net/whentoreturn.
BUS TRANSPORTATION UPDATES
Because of impacts from the pandemic, there are over 150 bus drivers who are currently following quarantine protocols. This has created driver shortages and situations when some bus routes cannot be served because no driver is available. There may be Pleasant Grove buses that are affected by these circumstances in the upcoming days, just like last week. Due to this situation, we encourage all families to check the status of their child’s bus each morning at www.wcpss.net/busupdate .
School Tours for Prospective Families: Families with children who will begin Kindergarten in August 2022 are encouraged to sign up for a school tour. Click here for more information.
Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, information about closing or delay of school is available at www.wcpss.net, local television, and on the radio. Make-up school days are determined by the school district.
Attendance: If your child is ever absent, families need to provide a note within two days of your child's return to school or the absences will be recorded as unexcused.
Early Checkout: The deadline for early checkout is 3:15 PM. You must show a photo id when you arrive to check your child out of school. If you arrive after 3:15 PM, then you will have to wait and go through the carpool line.
Meal Benefits: Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits as soon as possible. For every student who turns in the free and reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school becomes eligible for additional funds for services for students, especially students who are struggling in reading or math. Also, the NC Department of Health & Human Services uses free and reduced lunch and attendance data to determine any additional Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT) that will be issued in the coming months! By not applying for these meal benefits, you will miss the potential opportunity to receive direct P-EBT funds for your family. Information about meal benefits can be found at www.wcpss.net/meals and the application to complete online is at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ .
Transportation Changes: The deadline to make transportation changes for your child is 2:30 PM. If you need to make a transportation change for your child, send a note in writing to your child’s teacher in the morning. If you have an emergency transportation change that you can’t request in writing, please call the school office at 919-694-8770 before 2:30 PM. Do NOT send an e-mail to the teacher during the school day to request a transportation change. He or she might not read your e-mail until after dismissal. The school will not make transportation changes after 2:30 PM.
