September 12 Weekly Message

 

 

Hi Flyer Families,

 

This is Principal Batten with information about school events for September 13 – 17.

 

What this week of school will look like:

 

The PTA DanceFit Fundraiser will kickoff this week.  More information about the fundraiser will be shared with families throughout the week.  The goal of this activity is to raise $20,000 for programs for students and teachers throughout the school.

 

Thursday, September 16 is a teacher workday.  No school for students on Thursday.

 

A PTA meeting will be held for all families outdoors at the big playground on Thursday, September 16 at 6 PM.  Ice Cream treats will be provided for children.

 

Thursday, September 16 is also Instructional Assistants Appreciation Day.  Please join me in sharing thanks and appreciation to the Instructional Assistants who support students in the classroom and throughout the school.

 

Friday, September 17 is a School Spirit Day.  Students are encouraged to wear their Pleasant Grove spiritwear or our school colors.

 

The Positivity theme for this week is curiosity.

 


 

PTA DanceFit Fundraiser:  We are excited to launch the first ever Pleasant Grove DanceFit this week with a worldwide theme!  The PTA goal is to raise $20,000 for resources to support students and teachers and school events like spring fling, the family picnic, and technology to benefit all students and to strengthen our school community. 

 

We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now. Click here to learn how to support.  All students will participate in the Pleasant Grove DanceFit, regardless of financial participation. We will also be following our school safety guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone.

Carpool Reminders:  Carpool enters and exits the school at Pleasant Grove Church Road.  If you are parking, go to the parking lot by for a parking spot.  Do not stop in the carpool lane or school driveway and create a traffic hazard.  Parents make sure your child is ready to exit your car from the passenger side when you reach the school entrance. Pull all the way down to the furthest point to load/unload.  For safety, please ensure that your child is wearing a mask.  Carpool cars should follow the stacking lane that goes all the way around the big playground so that traffic does not back up onto Pleasant Grove Church Road. 

 

Buses: The bus driver shortage for the district has caused delays for riders. Although school dismisses at 3:45, that doesn't always mean that your child's bus is leaving at that time.  We operate on a tiered transportation system, meaning our drivers and buses service other middle and high schools before arriving to us.  This means some buses do not arrive to our campus until well after dismissal.  We load buses on a first-come basis and dismiss them that way.  Follow our bus Twitter page @pgesbuses to see the exact time your child's bus departed our campus, giving you a better estimate as to when it should reach your neighborhood.  Visit https://www.wcpss.net/busrider for information about bus routes, questions, and concerns. Transportation Changes: The deadline for transportation changes is 2:30 PM.  If you need to make a transportation change, send a note in writing to your child’s teacher in the morning.  If you have an emergency transportation change that you can’t request in writing, please call the school office at 919-694-8770 before 2:30 PM. Please do NOT send an e-mail to the teacher during the school day to request a transportation change. He or she might not read your e-mail until after dismissal.  The school will not make transportation changes after 2:30 PM.

 

Early Checkout: The deadline for early checkout is 3:15 PM. You must show a photo id when you arrive to check your child out of school. For the safety of all our students, our office staff will ask to see a photo ID before releasing a child to anyone.  If you arrive after 3:15 PM, then you will have to wait and go through the carpool line. 

 


 

Fall AIG Nominations:  We are currently accepting nominations for 5th grade students for AIG. The purpose of the Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program is to provide an appropriately challenging educational program for students who perform, or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. If you feel that your child would be a good candidate for this program in Reading and/or Math, please send Erin Bloomer an email at ebloomer@wcpss.net.

 


 

COVID Updates:  Face coverings are required for all students when indoors and on school buses.  Due to the pandemic only essential visitors will be allowed into school this year.  For more information about health and safety guidelines visit www.wcpss.net/covid19

 

Stay home when sick:  All students should have their temperature taken every day at home before coming to school. You may not enter a WCPSS facility if you are:

  • Diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 10 days
  • Exposed to COVID-19 within the last 14 days and not fully vaccinated
  • Instructed to quarantine
  • Sick or experiencing any of these symptoms of illness
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea


When students can return to school: 
Students who are not feeling well but do not have one of the COVID-19 symptoms listed above may return to school after they have gone at least 24 hours without a fever or the use of fever-reducing medicine. Meals:  Meals are available free of charge during the 2021-2022 school year.  Please note that a “meal” consists of an entrée item, fruit, vegetable, and milk.  Students who wish to obtain only snacks or milk must do so a la carte.  If your child wants to purchase just snacks or milk then parents should create an online meal account at http://www.myschoolbucks.com/
