September 7 Weekly Message
Hello Pleasant Grove Families,
I hope that you and your children are enjoying the holiday weekend and doing well. This is Principal Batten sharing an update about what to expect for the upcoming week at Pleasant Grove Elementary.
What will this week of school look like: Students only have four days of school this week. School is closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday. This week teachers will continue live instruction for students in reading and math. I am encouraging all teachers to create a weekly overview that can help families keep track of the activities and lessons that will occur. Click here for the daily schedule for each grade.
Teachers will continue to work flexibly with families who are still waiting for devices from the WCPSS district Technology Department. If your device needs have changed, and you now need a device from the district, please let your child’s teacher know.
One of the biggest issues that families have experienced with devices has been the security prompt that WCPSS requires. It is known as Zscaler and it is a security tool that blocks inappropriate content. It is only a one-time sign in process. Click here to read more.
PTA Updates: The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will have its first meeting of the year on Thursday, September 10, at 6:30 PM. This meeting will be conducted virtually.
Families are encouraged to join the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA supports students and teachers with instructional resources and special activities. Visit the PTA Website for more details. PTA Membership is $7.50.
Meals for Students: All food sites will be closed on Monday, September 7, for Labor Day. Brier Creek Elementary is currently a curbside pickup lunch service site for families in the area. This week curbside pickup times run from 10:45 AM -12:45 PM, Tuesday - Friday in the Brier Creek Elementary carpool loop. Visit: https://www.wcpss.net/food .
Resources for Childcare: Click this link to read more about the Families and Schools Together (FAST) Initiative and YMCA Scholastic Support Centers. More programs and groups have joined this initiative to support families and provide options for childcare throughout the county.
Teacher of the Year and Instructional Assistant of the Year: Due to school closures last spring this year Pleasant Grove will honor Ms. Baker and Ms. Bizzell as our Teacher of the Year and Instructional Assistant of the Year, respectively. Both Ms. Baker and Ms. Bizzell do outstanding work with students and it will be fitting that they can be honored appropriately with a celebration by the school and district.
Getting Started with Digital Resources: Visit https://www.wcpss.net/techguides for tips for how to get started with digital tools for remote learning.
Health Assessment & Immunization Updates: All immunization requirements and health assessments are now due by September 30, 2020. Students will be granted a 30-day grace period which expires on October 30, 2020. This means students will be excluded from school (in-person or virtually) on October 31, 2020.
School Communication: Make sure Pleasant Grove has your current cell phone, home phone, and email address in our database. Text messages will only be sent to people who opt in. Text YES to the code 67587 to receive messages from the school.
