July 27 Weekly Message

 

Hello Pleasant Grove Families,

 

Here is a weekly update about the steps to reopen Pleasant Grove and prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.

 


 

School Update:  Due to health concerns and trends with COVID-19, the Wake County Public School System has decided to delay bringing students back on campus in Plan B. Instead, all WCPSS students will begin the school year in online instruction. The first day of school remains August 17.  The first two weeks of school for all students will focus on orientation, meet and greet opportunities with students, families, and teachers, and distribution of supplies. Students will not be initially divided into groups A, B, C during the first two weeks of school.

 

WCPSS Virtual Academy Update: As part of these changes WCPSS has announced that all students will have a second opportunity to apply for the WCPSS Virtual Academy on July 27 - July 29. The Virtual Academy allows students to maintain continuity of a fully online learning environment regardless of any decisions made by the state to move into Plan A, B, or C throughout the school year. Students who sign up for Virtual Academy are still part of Pleasant Grove and will be taught by Pleasant Grove teachers to the degree possible.  Click here for more information or to register your child.  Registration will open at 12:01 a.m on July 27 and close on July 29 at 5 p.m.  If you have applied to the WCPSS Virtual Academy and would like to withdraw or change your application, please contact Pleasant Grove Elementary directly.  You can email Principal Batten at bbatten@wcpss.net.

 


 

Digital Devices: WCPSS recently contacted families to survey needs for devices.  Please make sure your family responded to this survey.  The district will use the survey to organize device distribution events across Wake County for families at the beginning of the school year.  More information will be communicated to families by WCPSS in the upcoming weeks.

 

Update from Raleigh Parks and Recreation:  Raleigh Parks & Recreation has notified Pleasant Grove that due to COVID-19, they will not be able provide any before school child care for families during the fall semester (through January).  Parks & Recreation is seeking to establish an after school program at Pleasant Grove when students are able to return to school in the future.  More information can be found on the Raleigh Parks & Recreation school based programs website.

New Students:  Visit https://bit.ly/PGESfutureflyer if you have not completed the enrollment process for your child.

 

Health Assessment:  All Kindergarten students and students who are new to public school in North Carolina must complete a Health Assessment.  Families can click here for more information.  Families of new students should submit the completed Health Assessment form to Pleasant Grove.
