Kids Heart Challenge Coming in February
Highcroft students will once again be making a difference in the fight against Heart Disease and Stroke by taking part in the Kids Heart Challenge.  KHC is a fundraising event that benefits the American Heart Association.  Students learn the value of taking care of their hearts and bodies while helping others.  The actual events take place during regular scheduled PE1 classes starting on February 10th.  Please be on the lookout for more information in February about how you can be a Heart Hero!

Health and Safety Procedures Reminders
If your child tests positive for COVID19 or is exposed outside of school, please email your child’s teacher and copy trich3@wcpss.net.  If your child was out due to a symptom of illness, he/she will need to follow WCPSS When to Return Guidelines.

https://www.wcpss.net/whentoreturn

That means they need to have at least one of the following to return to school after experiencing symptoms of illness:

  • A negative PCR COVID test (not a “rapid antigen” test)
  • A doctor's note listing an alternate diagnosis (AND it has been at least 24 hours since you had a fever without the use of fever-reducing medicine AND you have felt well for 24 hours).
  • 5-day quarantine without symptoms.

 Students may return if:

It has been at least 5 days since they first had symptoms (AND it has been at least 24 hours since they had a fever without the use of fever-reducing medicine AND symptoms are improving, including cough and shortness of breath).

-OR-

Symptoms Not Associated with COVID-19

If you are experiencing symptoms not on the NCDHHS COVID-19 symptom list (like ear ache, stomach ache), you may return to school after you have gone at least 24 hours without a fever or the use of fever-reducing medicine.

Attendance FYI

Anytime your child is not at school, you will receive an automated message.  We often get phone calls at the school to inquire about these messages when a student is ill or has an excused absence.  We cannot turn these messages off.

Meal Benefits

Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits as soon as possible . By submitting a qualifying application, families will also support the district in qualifying for additional funds to support students and learning! Also, the NC Department of Health & Human Services is collecting student free and reduced lunch and attendance data from WCPSS to determine any  additional Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT) that will be issued in the coming months! By not applying for these meal benefits, you will miss the potential opportunity to receive direct P-EBT funds for your family!

Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June 2022 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra education funding next school year. Also, this ensures your student is covered for the first few weeks of school next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits can be found at www.wcpss.net/meals. Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.
