Dear RMS Parents and Families,

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week.  After a rather rainy week it looks like it will be a beautiful long weekend.  I hope all of you will be able to take some time to enjoy with family and friends in whatever fashion they may look like.  As I mentioned in my message earlier today, the most important thing we wanted to share were the details regarding students picking up items at school and cleaning out their lockers.  Here are just a few additional items of note.

1. Earlier this week, WCPSS presented an updated 2020 – 2021 school calendar for multi-track year-round schools.  This proposal has a start date of August 3rd for Track 1,2, and 3 and August 17th for Track 4.  The calendar is updated to reflect the later start date as well as requirements set forth by the state.

An additional update in the proposal calls for adding 15 minutes to each school day.  This is necessary in order to meet the required minimum number of instructional hours set by the state.  The other option for this was to hold multiple days of school on Saturdays.

The updated calendar and changes are only a proposal currently.  The School Board will be voting on the proposal at their June 2nd meeting.  You can find more information about the updated calendar here.  Within that page there is also a link to the calendar itself.

2. Math 1, Math 2, and 8th Grade Spanish Students: We anticipated sending out final information about this today.  Just prior to sending out that information we were informed there was more clarity needed regarding the option to take a numerical grade or the grade of “PC-19”.   As soon as I have that we will follow up with students and families in these classes.

3. As a reminder, if you have a district-owned device and are having technical difficulties the district has established a resource for you to go to.  Within the resource you will find contact information for the Parent Technology Helpdesk.  You can access this resource and information by going here.

4. In observance of Memorial Day, food services will be canceled on Monday, May 25. Most weekend food service sites will still operate on a normal schedule Memorial Day Weekend.
