Dear RMS Families-

I hope everyone has had a great week!  Here are the updates and happenings at RMS!

1. 8th grade parents please mark your calendars to attend the High School on the Horizon program at 6 pm January 17th.  Come out and hear information on graduation requirements and the upcoming registration process for your rising 9th grade student. An important part of the evening is showing how GPA is calculated and how a student’s academic performance as a freshman can positively or negatively impact their GPA.

2. Congratulations to our basketball teams who were victorious over Wakefield Middle School on Monday and Thursday.  Next week, we will be in action on at home on Monday against Heritage.  On Thursday, we will travel to Wendell.

3. Please pay close attention to the weather and any announcements about school cancellations for the coming week.  WCPSS makes the announcement first through Twitter (@wcpss), but immediately following you can expect to see it on local news stations as well as the top of our school and district website.

4. Good luck to our girls who will be participating in the Heart & Sole 5k tomorrow morning.

5. Our dance company will be performing next Tuesday at 4:00 pm.  We hope you’ll be able to come out to watch a great performance.

6. Put December 20th at 6:30 on your calendar for the first ever RMS Talent Show.  It should be exciting night of showcasing some students doing some spectacular things.

7. Many volunteers are needed to make our first Engineering Day a success; it is the highlight of the year for our 7th grade students! This day is designed to engage students more deeply in engineering (STEM) activities possibly leading to career interest. Think of Engineering Day (STEM) as a festival and celebration for STEM Education and an opportunity to generate interest and excitement about working in the STEM fields.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to speak with students about your career, what you do in your career field, demo or present a visual, and present a hands-on activity if possible. Some examples of career categories we are looking for include, software engineer, petroleum engineering, marine engineer, geological engineer, environmental engineer, electrical engineer, drafting and design engineer, computer engineer, chemical engineer, automotive engineer

During the event students will rotate through classrooms every 30min. During this time, you will have the opportunity to share with students your career field, demo something cool, and if you have something tactile, we learn best by seeing, touching, and discovering.

It will be held on Friday, February 15th from 8:00 am – 11:30 am.  You can sign up by going here:

8. 8th grade families who are interested in learning more about Magnet High School options are invited to attend a mini-fair.  It will be held next Wednesday, December 12th from 6:00 – 7:30 at Panther Creek High School.
