End of Year Letter

Dear Wolfpack Families,

Thank you for an awesome school year!  I hope that each of you takes time to enjoy some quality moments with your family and soak in the summer. Now while it is time to rest and relax, it also means you can do just a little to keep those skills sharp.  Even the greatest athlete keeps in shape in the off season.  Learning does not have a season, it is a daily event!

To help our students to be on top of their game I am challenging all students to the Wakefield 90.  I want every student to work for 90 minutes a day to continue to grow and develop.  How do they reach their 90 minutes…..

  1.  30 minutes of reading each day on a book of their choice.  Continuing those great skills of reading is something they should continue their entire life.  If you really want to challenge yourself I would mix up the genres that you read in order to find appreciation for all types of books.

  1. 20 minutes of math each day by playing on Dreambox, multiplication war with a deck of cards, or another math game.  Keeping up with the skills of math fluency and critical thinking is important and a few minutes a day can go a long way.

  1. 10 minutes of writing each day that is completely offline.  Handwriting is important and practicing it is often missed in the age of computers.  Look for journal writing or writing a letter to a family member.  There are so many ways to practice writing so explore those opportunities.

  1. 30 minutes of exercise a day (preferably outdoors).  Get off the video games, get off the sofa, and get outside to play.  Part of the joy of being a kid is playing, so find your joy and spend time doing it either on team sports, individual training, running, hiking, shooting some hoops, or swimming at the pool.

Add those 4 things up and you will have yourself 90 minutes towards a successful summer!!!!

By the middle of July I will have supply lists posted for you on the website as I know some of you love to collect those supplies the first week in August.  I know that as our kids grow so fast in middle school you may also be out shopping for clothes for the fall.  Just as a reminder I am sending a copy of the dress code to help as you are choosing outfits for school.

I know I will reach out more during the summer, but I just wanted to say thank you again for a great year and encourage you to participate in the Wakefield 90!!!!!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rachlin
