Dear Wolfpack,

First off I want to say thank you again for a wonderful first week of school.  Your patience and support are amazing and I am so thankful to our community and students for the awesome job.  The students were energetic and involved as excellent students and it is much appreciated.  A couple of notes from the week are:

  1.  We are continuing to work on the buses, but with limited drivers it is difficult to find coverage if anyone is out.  I will try this week to set up messages specific to student routes so that I am not sending out a message to all, but I would say that when you get up in the morning I would check this website link daily to ensure your bus is running.

  2. I want to remind families that car riders in the morning will start unloading closer to 8am this week and to remind families not to drop off students prior to adult supervision.  I know that everyone is trying to get to work, but we can’t just have students just left unattended as safety is a top priority.

  3. Please remind your student to charge their laptop every night so they are ready for the day.  We do not have enough spare chargers for everyone so we need to help our students to be prepared each day.

  4. Finally I want to remind families that we worked very diligently to remind students about the dress code throughout the week and your help is greatly appreciated moving forward.  Overall excellent job by everyone dressing for success!  The two main issues we saw this week that you could help with is with the length of shorts being too short.  According to the district policy they should be mid thigh and also pajamas are only on designated spirit days.

NC Legislators passed a law to inform students in grades 6-12 each year about important resources related to child abuse and neglect.  The attached document contains important information and resources available in our community.  If you have any questions about this, please reach out to your school social worker or school counselor.

Picture Taking - is next week Tuesday (9/12).  All students will take their picture that day and we will be sending home picture packet information this week as well as yearbook ordering information home with your child.

PTSA - The PTSA would like to remind all families to join the PTSA and if interested in volunteering, please reach out to Theresa Dew, PTSA President, or attend the Executive Meeting on Wednesday, Sept 6th at 6:00pm in the media center here at school.  The PTSA September newsletter is linked and  has been posted to their Facebook page and website.

Wakefield Middle School will host an Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) informational session on Wednesday, September 13th (5:30pm - 6:00pm) in the theater. This session is for families of students who have not already been identified as AIG. Attending this meeting does not automatically refer your child for the AIG process. Ms. Clemens will review the process for referral and how AIG and/or Talent Development is determined. If you are interested in this information but are unable to attend the meeting, please let Ms. Clemens (aclemens@wcpss.net) know as we plan to record the session to share as needed.

Meet the Teacher Night is coming on next week Wednesday (9/13) and I want to give you a tentative schedule for right now.

  • 5:30-6:00 - AIG meeting for those not identified

  • 6:00-6:25  - All families are welcome to freely visit their child’s elective teachers, see the rooms, and look for basic information from the elective teachers.

  • 6:30 we will have formal presentations in your child’s homeroom class.  Families will report to homeroom and we will rotate to all of the core classes.  The evening will begin with a short virtual message from our PTSA and Wakefield Foundation.

I hope that everyone can make it and I look forward to seeing you then.

Enjoy the rest of your three day weekend as Monday is a holiday. Students, we will see you bright and early on Tuesday!  Also just  reminder students to have any change of clothes you need for fall sports tryouts starting Tuesday.
