22-23 Summer Update

Dear Wakefield Middle School Families,

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer!  I’m writing with important information in preparation for the 2022-2023 school year.  Please know that we will send another family message in the coming weeks with additional details.  I wish you a successful school year!

Wolf Camp - August 25th 1:00pm - 3:00 pm

6th Grade Wolf Camp is our opening activity for all 6th grade students to prepare for a great first day of middle school.  Students will receive their class schedule, meet their teachers and classmates, get their lockers (and practice using it!), and participate in fun activities.  There will also be a parent session included.

Rising 6th Grade Band Camp

All rising 6th grade students who are interested in playing in the band are invited to participate in Summer Band Camp on August 23rd - 25th.  Camp will run from 8:00 am - 12:30 pm at Wakefield High School.  On August 25th, 6th graders will walk down from camp to Wakefield Middle School to participate in Wolf Camp, beginning at 1:00 pm.  Please pack lunch on the 25th to eat in the WMS Diner.

7th/8th Grade Schedule Pick-Up

All 7th and 8th Grade students are invited to come to WMS on August 24th anytime between 1:00 - 3:00 pm to pick up their class schedules.  At that point, students and families are invited to walk through the building and meet their teachers.  This is a flexible event for students.

Student Schedules

Please be reminded that we are continuing to finalize our master schedule for the 22-23 school year.  Therefore, the student class schedules that currently appear on Powerschool are not final.  Please do not request schedule changes at this time.  When students pick up their class schedules on August 24th or 25th, they will be provided with a form to request an elective class change.

Supply Lists

Grade level supply lists will be posted on the school website in early August and shared in a family email message in early August.

Welcome Mr. Kevin Hill!

Mr. Hill will serve as the Interim Principal at Wakefield Middle School starting on August 1st.  We are grateful for his contribution and dedication to the WMS community.

22/23 Athletics Update

The WCPSS Athletic Physical forms have gone digital! We will now be using a program called DragonFly to collect physical forms next school year. HERE is a guide to help you get started! All Athletic Eligibility forms are due by September 1st.  Fall sports tryouts will begin on September 6th. If you have any questions, please email Coach Sarver at

7th Grade Immunizations

All 7th graders are required to have additional immunizations in order to attend school.  If your student is in need of additional immunizations, we have already provided information on your student's report cards.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Morrison at or by calling the school.

22-23 Meet the Teacher - Save the Date!

We will hold our Meet the Teacher Event on September 13th at 6:00 pm.  More details to come!

Apply for Free and Reduced-Price Meals

All students currently receive free school meals supported by federal funding due to the pandemic.  This funding is set to end on June 30, 2022.  In order to receive free or reduced-price meals for the next school year, families need to submit a meal benefits application. All families must complete an application for the 2022-23 school year starting July 1 in order to receive benefits. Please allow 10 business days for processing.  We need you to complete a 2022-23 meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for extra funding next year.  If you have not completed a free or reduced-price meal application and think your child may be eligible, pick up an application at school or apply online. Paper applications can also be requested by calling 919-588-3535 or 919-856-2920 or emailing As a reminder, 22-23 meal prices are K-5 Breakfast $1.50 and Lunch $3.00 & 6-12 Breakfast $1.75 and Lunch $3.25.

School Change Information

If you are not planning to attend Wakefield Middle School this year, please contact our Data Manager, Ms. Morrison at or by calling the school.  She will be able to share with you the process for withdrawing your student in good standing.
