April 22nd, 2022
Good afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Athens Drive Magnet High School, with a message for Friday, April 22nd. A copy of this message will be posted on our school website (www.wcpss.net/athensdrivehs), tweeted on our school Twitter account, emailed to our students, and emailed and texted to our school families.
NEW AND UPDATED ANNOUNCEMENTS:
A GREAT WEEK AT THE DRIVE HONORING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND SUCCESS: I thoroughly enjoyed recognizing our Honor students at our Academic Honors Recognition Ceremonies! It is always a great day when we can honor academic achievement and excellence at The Drive! I am proud of the 754 students who earned Latin Honors and applaud the hard work our students have put into their learning so that they can continue to move forward each year and reach their post-secondary goals! Please be sure they show you their certificate, and I hope they completed their “homework” assignment and thanked you for your love, support, and care that you all have provided over the years! Our school family is filled with gifted and talented students and staff, and please know that I appreciate the support you provide for us to work together to help every student reach his/her ultimate potential!
PLEASE COMPLETE OUR FAMILY SURVEY: Athens Drive Magnet High School and the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) has launched a Districtwide Family Survey to learn more about you and your child’s experiences in our schools. I am asking all school families to please complete this survey. Please know that your responses on this Family Survey will be confidential and only reported in combination with other responses. No one will be able to see individual responses from any parent or guardian. Please know that we do use the Family Survey data to help us continue to improve our school climate and the teaching and learning at Athens Drive Magnet High School. The Family Survey will remain open through Friday, May 6th. We also have a link on our website for the Family Survey. I ask that you please take 10 – 15 minutes to complete the Family Survey between now and Friday, May 6th. Thank you for your support in helping us to continue to find ways to best meet the needs of all students and families and help every student reach his/her ultimate potential.
FUN RUN TO HELP SUPPORT UKRAINE: I am proud that we have students who continually want to make an impact both locally and globally! To help support the Humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, our students have created a Fun Run to raise funds to support Ukraine. Please come out on Saturday morning, April 30th, to get moving, gather with the Athens Drive Magnet High School community, and support Ukraine! We will be hosting a Fun Run around The Drive to support the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to send resources to Ukraine. The event will include food, games, family fun, donation opportunities, and everyone who signs up has a chance to win big with a charity raffle! Tickets to participate in the Fun Run costs $18.00. However, if you are just interested in a tailgate, you can buy a plate of food online by credit or in person with cash. If you are not interested in running, but still want to support, there is a donation option on the Fun Run website our students created. Please know that Registration ends Wednesday, April 27th. Visit the link to the Fun Run Website (funrunukraineadhs.com) or the Instagram: Instagram: @funrunukraineadhs. If you have specific questions, please contact our student leaders, Zoe Politis (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Caroline Purdy (email@example.com). Thank you for your support of our students’ efforts to make a positive difference!
STUDENT GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS COMING SOON! Students who want to have a voice at The Drive; want to help plan school functions like Pep Rally, Homecoming, Coming Home, Powder Puff, and more; and/or want to gain valuable leadership experience, should consider running for Student Government. The Elections for next school year's Student Government will take place from Monday, May 9th through Wednesday, May 11th. Students interested in running for a position in their Grade Level Student Council can complete the Registration Packet and return it to Mr. Remaley (Room 2618) or Ms. Vick (Room 2726) before Friday, April 29th. If students have any questions, please contact Mr. Remaley (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Emily Vick (email@example.com).
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) EXAMS: AP Exams will take place the first two weeks of May (Monday, May 2nd through Thursday, May 12th). Please visit our Advanced Placement information page to see details about these upcoming Exams. Most AP Exams will take place at Christ the King Lutheran Church (600 Walnut St, Cary, NC 27511), but some AP Exams will be taken at Athens Drive Magnet High School. Students will receive an email (the one associated with their College Board account) with the AP Exam location at least one day prior to their scheduled AP Exam date. If you have any questions, please reach out to our AP Test Coordinator, Ms. Boothe (firstname.lastname@example.org). Thank you for your attention to this important information!
SENIOR SECOND SEMESTER CHECKLIST: Now that our Seniors are into the final Quarter of the school year on the road towards Graduation, Mr. Remaley has compiled a Second Semester Checklist for our Seniors and their families. Please use the link to see important information and links to ensure our Seniors and Senior families are ready for the end the school year! If you have any questions, please contact our Senior Class Advisor, Mr. Remaley (email@example.com).
GRADUATION TICKET INFORMATION: Senior families, we have been given approval to grant additional Graduation ticket requests for up to 5 additional tickets. Please keep in mind that Graduates will already get 7 tickets to Graduation at the Rehearsal on Thursday, May 26th. Now, Senior families can request up to 5 additional Graduation tickets for a maximum total of 12 Graduation tickets. The extra ticket request form can be found on the last page of the Graduation Handbook (linked HERE and on the Athens Drive Magnet High School website). Please remember that ALL Graduates MUST attend the Graduation Rehearsal on Thursday, May 26th in order to receive their tickets to Graduation. This will be the only time that we will be able to practice for Graduation, and this is a required event for students to participate in our Graduation celebration on June 11th. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Remaley (firstname.lastname@example.org).
SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION FORM: At our Senior Awards Assembly, we want to acknowledge all the amazing Scholarships that our Seniors have earned! We are asking for EVERY Senior to please submit a Senior Scholarship Information Google Form for each Scholarship offer, even the ones that the Senior is not accepting! We do not need Seniors to report any Grants or Loans, just Scholarship information. Please report only College, Academic, Athletic, Band, Business, Church, Community, Fine Arts, Military, etc. Scholarships. Students will also need to upload the documentation that provides proof of receiving the Scholarship. This documentation can be a letter from the University or an email acknowledging the Scholarship. Thus, for example, if a student receives 4 Scholarships, the student should submit this Google form 4 times. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Telfair (email@example.com) or Ms. Boothe (firstname.lastname@example.org). The Submission Deadline for Scholarships is Friday, May 13th. Thank you for your support in helping us celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2022!
CPR GRADUATION REQUIREMENT FOR SENIORS: We are continuing to work with our Seniors who have not met their CPR Graduation Requirement and have scheduled another CPR Certification training for Wednesday, April 27th. This Certification will take less than 30 minutes, and is a North Carolina Graduation requirement. Several years ago, the state of North Carolina made it a requirement that any student graduating from a North Carolina Public High School will have to complete "Hands Only" (No Mouth to Mouth) CPR training. Most students complete this requirement in their 8th Grade year, and it is placed on their Transcript. However, if a student came to North Carolina from another State, Private School, or Homeschool situation after 8th Grade they will not have this on their Transcript, or they may have been absent when CPR was covered in their 8th grade Health class and never made it up. The training consists of a short lesson on how to do Hands Only CPR compressions on someone who is unresponsive. Students will then have to be able to do 100 compressions in 60 seconds on a CPR dummy. This is not a Red Cross certification course which of course is much more detailed and can includes AED and First Aid training. Students do not get a CPR card after completing this requirement, they will just get completion of the requirement added to their Transcript and they meet their Graduation requirement. Please know that even if a student is attending our Virtual Academy, the student must complete this Graduation requirement in person.
SENIOR GRADUATION HANDBOOK: Please remember that Seniors were provided a Senior Graduation Handbook that listed important dates, information about Graduation, etc. This is important information for our Seniors and their families! ALL students attending the Prom must complete a Permission Form (Athens Drive or non-Athens Drive student). The Forms along with other Prom information can be found on the school website main page, right side. Tickets are $40.00 each. If you have any questions, please contact the Senior Class Advisor, Mr. Remaley (email@example.com), or the Junior Class Advisor, Ms. Vick (firstname.lastname@example.org).
GRADUATION FEE PAYMENT REMINDER: Seniors need to remember that they must pay our Graduation Fee of $60.00 online (on our school website, under Parents and Online Payments) or in-person in the Main Office before they can participate in the remaining Senior Events (e.g., Prom, Senior Picnic, or receive their Graduation Tickets). Seniors and their families who have any questions about anything Senior-related, please contact our Senior Class Advisor, Mr. Remaley (email@example.com).
SENIOR NAMES BEING CALLED AT GRADUATION: In order to help ensure the correct pronunciation of our Seniors names at Graduation, we are asking every Senior to complete this Google Form. Thank you for your help in getting this information so that Mr. Katz can prepare for the reading of names at Graduation!
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: I would like to remind Seniors and families that we have many Scholarships listed on our Athens Drive 2021 – 2022 Scholarship Bulletin. We also offer many school-based Scholarships that our Seniors need to apply for. We will be announcing new Scholarships soon, including the Dr. Credle Memorial Scholarship and several Scholarships that will be provided by Ekklesia Church, the Church that uses our Auditorium for services each Sunday. These, and the PTSA Scholarship listed below, are great opportunities that only our Seniors will have a chance to earn money for college! Please encourage your Senior to apply for these, and other Scholarships, to assist them with paying for college.
JUNIORS CONSIDERING APPLYING TO UNC – CHAPEL HILL NEXT YEAR: Are you a current JUNIOR interested in applying to UNC – Chapel Hill next year? If so, this virtual student panel is for you! This virtual program will take place on Sunday, April 24th, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Students will be able to listen to current UNC Students who have a wide variety of class years and majors of study, and students will also have the opportunity to ask questions towards the end of the program. The purpose of the program is to equip students with the tools necessary to prepare them for the upcoming year, as well as to help them make the best College decision, whether that be at Carolina or elsewhere. Students must submit a new Summer 2022 Registration Form, as previously submitted Registration forms were not kept on file. Please know that classes will be held in-person on our campus for 5 days, 6 hours a day (this includes a Lunch break). Registration forms need to be submitted by Thursday, May 5th, and forms should be scanned and submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. WAKE TECH IS OFFERING FREE TUIRION AND FEES: Wake Tech is offering free tuition and fees for 2022 North Carolina High School Graduates who enroll this Fall. The Emily K Center is hosting a 2022 College Expo with over 40 colleges in attendance, educational workshops, and other fun activities. Please visit emilyk.org/expo to register and get more information.
HIGH STANDARDS FOR BEHAVIOR BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: Parents, guardians, and students, I am also asking that we work together to demonstrate proper behavior, upholding high expectations at all our year-end functions that are approaching, and driving safely in and around campus. We have a long tradition of excellence at The Drive, and let us make these last few weeks and special year-end events stand-out in positive ways. I encourage all our students to make positive choices in their lives—at school, at home, and behind the wheel. Thank you for your support.
AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION FOR STUDENTS: Please help in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, school, and visitors. We have noticed students are remaining after school for a variety of reasons who are not under the direct supervision of a teacher, coach, or other responsible adult on campus. At the end of our instructional day, only those students who are under the direct supervision of a teacher, coach, or other responsible adult can remain on campus. Students who do not follow these directions will not be allowed to remain after school once the final bell rings at 2:18 p.m. Thank you for your support.
CLOSING MESSAGE AND TAKE CARE: Please continue to check the Athens Drive website for general information and to help you stay informed. Please enjoy a wonderful weekend! As always, please continue to be safe and take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and each other. GO JAGS!
REMINDER ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM PREVIOUS WEEKLY MESSAGES:
CURRICULUM NIGHT AND FRESHMEN OPEN HOUSE INFORMATION: For those families that were not able to attend or those that would like to go back and review the information presented related to the 2022 – 2023 school year, please review our Registration Information document which contains many links to important curriculum information. Thank you for your support in helping our students select courses that push them to reach their post Athens Drive goals!
PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF YOU ARE SICK OR SYMPTOMATIC! I would continue to ask that we please work together to keep all our students, staff, and visitors safe and work to stop the spread of COVID-19 at The Drive. To support this effort, students who are experiencing any of these Department of Health and Human Services-identified COVID-19 symptoms should NOT come to school: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle of body aches, headache, new loss of taste and smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
UTILIZING POWERSCHOOL TO TRACK YOUR STUDENT’S PROGRESS: Please know that PowerSchool is available for parents in addition to your student(s). This is one of the best ways to keep track of your student’s progress. PowerSchool contains up-to-date grades (including missing assignments). Please know that your parent account will update at the same time grades are entered by teachers. PowerSchool can be used to receive notifications about when your student is tardy or absent from a class. It is highly recommended that all parents use this tool. Instructions on how to set this up can be found here: https://www.wcpss.net/student-information. I am thankful for your support and glad we are together in assisting our students in reaching their ultimate potential!
STUDENTS SHOULD ALWAYS CHECK THEIR WCPSS EMAIL ACCOUNT: Please remember that students need to be checking their WCPSS email account, as that is where important information is communicated to students! I just wanted to remind our students to make this a habit.
FREE TUITION AND FEES FOR IN-STATE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES TO WAKE TECH: Students who graduate from a North Carolina High School this year can attend Wake Tech this Fall at little to no cost. Wake Tech is offering free tuition and fees for 2022 High School Graduates who are classified as a North Carolina resident by the Residency Determination Service (RDS) and enroll for the fall 2022 semester. Additional information regarding this recent news can be found on the Wake Tech website.
PARKING ON CAMPUS: Thank you for your support of our efforts to ensure our students do the right thing and not park on campus unless they have a valid Parking Pass. I would continue to ask all students who want to drive and park on campus to be sure that they have a valid Athens Drive Parking Pass. Please know that the cost of a Parking Pass is prorated, so to park on campus from now until the end of the school is $100.00. Students who park illegally on campus cause us problems as they are taking a space from a staff member or student who has paid for a spot. Please know it is important for us to know who is parking in each space and have parent permission for students to drive and park on campus. Students interested in securing a Parking Pass for the remainder of the 2021 – 2022 school year should carefully read and follow the guidelines on the application. To complete the Parking Pass Application process, please complete the On-Line Parking Registration. Thank you, again, for your understanding and support!
BEING RESPECTFUL WHEN DRIVING TO AND FROM CAMPUS: Now that Athens Drive has been closed due to the bridge replacement project, I would ask for your help as you are driving to and from campus. As our students and school families find alternative routes to school, our neighbors are experiencing an increase in traffic through neighborhoods that haven’t normally experienced that kind of volume. I would ask that we please be mindful of our speed by obeying speed limits, coming to complete stops at stop signs, looking out for little children and families, and driving responsibly as we make our way to and from school in the mornings and afternoons. I want us to always be safe and represent The Drive in only the highest manner. Thank you for caring and for being good neighbors, responsible drivers, and outstanding representatives of Athens Drive!
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND FAFSA: Scholarships are one of your family’s most powerful tools in the journey to cover College/University costs without loans because they are funds students earn and never have to pay back! Please visit the Athens Drive Magnet High School Scholarship Page for Scholarships available to students. In addition, to qualify for Financial Aid, students need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Some colleges also require the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. Please contact our Financial Aid Advisor, Tori Sharpe, at firstname.lastname@example.org, to get assistance with completing the FAFSA. For more information about the FAFSA visit FAFSA website.
FUTURE TEACHER PROGRAM APPLICATION NOW OPEN: Another “scholarship” opportunity for students is the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Future Teacher Program. Graduating Seniors who are going to college with the intention of pursuing a Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade teaching career in one of ten identified areas are encouraged to apply for the Future Teacher Program. The application deadline is April 15th. This program offers students an annual summer professional development stipend, and more importantly, a WCPSS teaching position upon Graduation! Students and families can register for an Online Information Session that will be held on February 24th. My daughter was accepted in this Program and is Graduating in May from N.C. State University and knows she has a guaranteed teaching position in WCPSS upon Graduation. As a dad, it is nice to know she is already guaranteed employment to follow her passion!
COVID-19 TESTING AT ATHENS DRIVE MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL: We held our first COVID-19 Testing day at The Drive this morning. For students and staff who enrolled in our free, StrongSchoolsNC COVID-19 Testing, they were tested between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. this morning. We will be testing those staff and students who have enrolled in our program every Friday morning from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Please know that students can still enroll in this program by registering at this link: Athens Drive High COVID-19 Testing Registration.
SENIOR FAMILIES: Thank you to all our Senior families who attended the Senior Parent Information meeting last week prior to our Meet the Teacher night! If you couldn’t attend the meeting and missed the presentation, then you can click HERE to see the Google Slide Deck that was used. Please take time to review the information and if you have any questions please contact our Senior Class Advisor, Mr. Remaley (email@example.com).
SPRING SPORTS HAVE STARTED! Spring Sports are underway! In the Spring Season we offer Baseball, Softball, Women's Soccer, Women's Lacrosse, Men's Lacrosse, Men's Tennis, Men's Golf, Track and Field, and Stunt. With that many sports happening, there is something happening at The Drive almost every night of the week. If you would like to come out and watch a game you can purchase tickets via GoFAN or purchase a Sports Pass that is good for admission to all home events. Even if you aren't able to make it to a game, we encourage you to follow the accomplishments of our teams via Instagram and Twitter (both @athensjags), our Facebook Page, or watch our games on the NFHS Network. You can find schedules and game times on MaxPreps. We look forward to seeing you at a game this Spring to support our student athletes!
FOOD PANTRY IS OPEN! In case you were not aware, at Athens Drive we also have a Food Pantry supported by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. The Food Pantry is stocked with non-perishable food items, toiletries, and fresh produce and frozen meats, when possible. Families are invited to shop in our Food Pantry by appointment during business hours, 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. To make an appointment, please contact Student Services at (919) 233-4050 or email Ms. Burnette at firstname.lastname@example.org.
FAN CODE OF CONDUCT: As you attend various athletic events, you will also see our Fan Code of Conduct. We ask all spectators to adhere to this Code of Conduct:
- The Athens Drive Athletic Department is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all student athletes and fans while visiting our campus.
- School staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where our student athletes and fans can enjoy an event experience free from the following:
- Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal in nature
- Abusive, foul, or disruptive language and obscene gestures
- Fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures
- Throwing objects of any kind
- Any disruption to the progress of the event caused by a fan’s actions
- Intoxication or other signs of impairment related to alcohol consumption or other substance abuse
- Failing to follow instructions from school staff
- Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team’s student athletes or fans
- Any behavior that otherwise interferes with the progress of the contest
Thank you for helping us be positive role models of sportsmanship and representing our school and teams in only the highest manner!
ATHENS ORACLE: I'm excited to let you know that the Athens Oracle Staff is now publishing daily on our website, Twitter, and Instagram. We moved away from print publication last year and found that the students really liked publishing more online. They can get stories out faster and can use multiple types of media to tell their stories. Our students are excited about their articles and posts and wanted me to share them with you. Please check out the website here: Athens Oracle and follow them on Twitter and Instagram @AthensOracle. Also, the Athens Oracle we would love to feature your class, club, sport, hard-working student, or you! Send us article ideas and we will put reporters on the stories. If you have an idea, send it to our Newspaper Advisor, Ms. Hornick (email@example.com). Thanks for supporting our Oracle Staff!
ATHENS DRIVE TUTORING CLUB: Please remember that our Athens Drive Tutoring Club is up and running, again, for this year. Attached is the information brochure. This is for students that would like to request a Peer Tutor AND for those students who would like to be a Peer Tutor. Information can be found on the Athens Drive Tutoring Club website.
CARPOOL SAFETY: There has been an increase in the number of cars that are just pulling over on Athens Drive to stop and either drop-off students in the morning or pick-up students in the afternoon. This is a very dangerous practice, and I would ask all our parents to please STOP doing this and follow our carpool process and procedures. I know that we all have our students’ safety and well-being as our top priority, and continuing this practice just isn’t worth the extra few minutes you may save in circumventing our on-campus carpool process. Thank you for providing not only a positive role model for our students by doing the right thing, but thank you for caring about the safety of all students by stopping this practice immediately. I do appreciate it.
SENIORGRAM IS POSTED FOR OUR SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES: Our official SENIORGRAM from Mr. Remaley has been released with all the important Senior Event dates for the entire school year! Be sure to check it out and save those dates! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Remaley (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please know that we are going to work hard to make sure this Senior year is special for our Seniors!
ACCESSING TEACHER/COURSE INFORMATION: To best support the academic success of our students, every teacher has created a Learning Management System in either Canvas or Google Classroom. Students and families can access these resources by finding their Teacher on our Faculty Directory on the Athens Drive Magnet High School website. Students who are out of school due to absences or quarantine must utilize this resource to stay up-to-date with class assignments and resources.
GRADUATION DATE FINALIZED FOR THE CLASS OF 2022!! I am happy to announce that our Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2022 will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Raleigh Convention Center! I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of this incredible Class at our Commencement Exercises!
STUDENTS MUST HAVE A VALID PARKING PASS TO PARK ON CAMPUS: On Monday, September 13th, we will begin to ticket any cars who are parking on campus who do not have a valid Parking Pass to park on campus. We will also be ticketing students who park in a different Parking Space than the one they are assigned. I would like to ask all students and parents to help us ensure that only those students who have a valid Parking Pass park on campus. Please understand that any student who parks on campus must have a Parking Pass and park only in their assigned space. It is important for us to know who is parking in each space and have parent permission for students to drive and park on campus. Students interested in securing a Parking pass for the 2021 – 2022 school year should carefully read and follow the guidelines on the application. To complete the Parking Pass Application process, please complete the On-Line Parking Registration.
DRESS CODE: I would like to again enlist your support in helping us maintain appropriate dress at school. WCPSS has a Dress Code Policy, and I would ask that all students adhere to this Dress Code. Please be sure that students do not wear clothing that violates the Dress Code. In addition, hats, hoods that are pulled over the head, do-rags, and bandanas are also not allowed to be worn on school grounds. I would ask that we work together to be sure our students dress appropriately and focus on learning. I thank you for your support!
ATTENDANCE INFORMATION: We are implementing new procedures for Student Check-In and Check-Out and are working to go as paperless as possible with regards to our Attendance procedures. I would ask that school families please use our Attendance-Specific email address (email@example.com) to send any communication regarding Attendance. Any emails from parents/guardians, doctor’s offices, etc. need to be sent to that email address. In addition, when a parent/guardian comes to school to check-out or check-in a student, the parent/guardian will be using a QR Code that we have posted on the Front Door of the school to complete our process. As soon as the parent/guardian is done entering the information in the Google Doc, we will contact the student’s teacher and the student will come to the Front Doors of the school for Check-Out. Please remember that for safety reasons, there are no student Check-Outs allowed after 1:45 p.m. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we implement these new procedures.
VIRTUAL ACADEMY WEBSITE: We have created a Virtual Academy website that is open as a resource for our Virtual Academy students. We hope this information supports our Virtual Academy students and families as they embark on virtual teaching and learning this year.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS FOR THE ENTIRE 2021 – 2022 SCHOOL YEAR: Please remember that Breakfast, and Lunch, will be available at no cost to all students for the 2021 – 2022 school year. While WCPSS may be able to offer free meals to all students, it is very important for eligible parents to complete a meal benefits application because this data enables schools to obtain funding to provide other important educational resources to benefit our students. Other benefits that are issued directly to families that have applied and are eligible for meal benefits may also be available (such as the P-EBT cash benefit). Parents can complete a meal benefits application online at https://www.myschoolapps.com/. Paper applications also are available at all schools. More information can be found at WCPSS Free & Reduced Meals.
FAMILY PARTNERS—OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE: I am looking to start a new program to better facilitate communication and to address the specific needs of each Grade Level. Our Family Partners program will be an opportunity for our school families to meet throughout the year to receive specific information related to the Grade Level of their student. I am hoping this will build positive relationships and increase timely, specific information to our school families. To make this partnership work, I am asking that we have approximately five parents/guardians from each to serve as a Lead Family Partner for each Grade. These Lead Family Partners will serve as facilitators for each group along with one Administrator and one Counselor. Together, these individuals will lead meetings (my thinking is maybe three/four meetings a year), be a resource for Grade Level school families, support Grade Level families through communication, and be Grade Level representatives at a few of our school-wide events (e.g., Magnet Open House, Curriculum Night, etc.). The time commitment will not be overwhelming, I promise, and it will give these individuals a chance to gain insights and information to support their own students and all students in that Grade Level. Lead Family Partners will move each year forward with their Grade Level (e.g., the same Lead Family Partners for the Freshmen Class this year will be the same Lead Family Partners for the Sophomore Class next year, etc.). If you would be interested in serving in this capacity, I would ask you to please complete this Family Partner Information Form letting me know your interest in serving in this capacity. Thank you for considering this new service opportunity to make a positive difference for our students and school!
PARKING PASS: Parking passes for Juniors and Seniors in good standing for the 2021 – 2022 school year are now available. Students interested in securing a Parking pass for the 2021 – 2022 school year should carefully read and follow the guidelines on the application. To complete the Parking Pass Application process, please be sure to do the following:

- Print and complete the One-Page Paper Application (which includes a signed copy of the Athens Drive Magnet High School and Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Rules and Regulations). Please note the dates for accepting applications.

Parking tags may be picked up beginning on Monday, August 2nd, Monday through Friday, through Friday, August 20th, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please know that Parking Passes and Off-Campus Lunch Passes are two separate applications.
OFF-CAMPUS LUNCH PASS: Off-Campus Lunch passes for Juniors and Seniors in good standing for the 2021 – 2022 school year are also now available. A Junior or Senior student cannot leave campus during Lunch without having an authorized Off-Campus Lunch pass. Freshmen and Sophomores are NEVER allowed to leave campus during the school day, unless on an approved school trip. To complete this process, please visit the Off-Campus Lunch Pass information page on our Athens Drive Magnet High School website and please note the following:
- The student must be a Junior or Senior.
- The student must not have any outstanding fees and fines due to Athens Drive Magnet High School.
- The student must have the parent/guardian sign the Off-Campus Lunch Pass application.
Please know the 2021 – 2022 Off-Campus Lunch Pass Application Form can be found on our website. The cost for a 2021 – 2022 Off-Campus Lunch Pass is $5.00. The completed form needs to be emailed to our School Receptionist, Ms. Gattens (firstname.lastname@example.org) or physically brought to the school to the Main Office to turn it in. Please know that since we did not take student photographs last year due to COVID-19, we will need to make every Off-Campus Lunch Pass in the Main Office. Students will need to come to school beginning Monday, August 2nd, between the hours or 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. every day, Monday through Friday, until Friday, August 20th. A completed application and $5.00 fee must be provided before we can create an Off-Campus Lunch Pass for a student. Please know that Parking passes and Off Campus Lunch passes are two separate applications.
