Good afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Athens Drive Magnet High School, with a message for Friday, January 7th. A copy of this message will be posted on our school website (www.wcpss.net/athensdrivehs), tweeted on our school Twitter account, emailed to our students, and emailed and texted to our school families.

 

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

WELCOME BACK! It was great to have the building filled with students again to start the new year! I hope you all had a wonderful break and thank you for continuing to allow us to serve your student and your family again in this new year! And, what a start we had!! Thank you for your understanding on Monday as we survived a variety of weather events to make it through the day, endured a two-hour delay on Tuesday, and continued to battle with COVID-19 as it impacted many students and staff. However, I am thankful there was still a focus on teaching and learning and we were able to finish the Second Quarter and First Semester in a strong, positive manner. I am very appreciative of the efforts of our teachers and staff to serve our students and our students’ commitment to learning each day!

 

FINAL EXAMS NEXT WEEK: Please remember that next week we are having our First Semester Final Exams. For families new to High School and unfamiliar with Semester Final Exams, we end each Semester with a week of Final Exams. Classes end today, so there are no classes next week, only Final Exams. Please be sure to access the above link to be familiar with our efforts to administer our Final Exams with integrity. Our Final Exams take place from Monday, January 10th through Friday, January 14th. Please know that all students must take their Final Exams as scheduled, so please be sure that you plan any appointments, etc. outside of the Final Exam Schedule for your student. Please know that it is important for our students to study outside of class for their Final Exams. Please remember that End-Of-Course Tests and CTE Post Assessments are State-mandated Final Exams, and all students must take these Exams. There are no Senior Exam Exemptions for those Final Exams. All Final Exams count 20% of a students’ final grade for the class (Final Grade is calculated by 40% for Quarter 1, 40% for Quarter 2, and 20% for Final Exam). Please also remember that if a student does not have a Final Exam scheduled for a day, he/she does not need to come to school on that day. Due to the number of staff required to administer the variety of Final Exams that we give, only students who have an assigned Final Exam need to be on campus each day. Here are some additional important pieces of information regarding our Final Exams:

 

  • Every course has a Final Exam. The student will either take an End-Of-Course test, CTE Post Assessment, or a Teacher-Made Final Exam. For Teacher-Made Final Exams, that could be a Test, Project, or other cumulative assessment.
  • Final Exams will be given on Monday, January 10th through Friday, January 14th. Friday, January 14th is a Make-Up Day for Final Exams, and the only students who need to come to school on Friday, January 14th, are those students who missed a Final Exam earlier in the week and need to make it up.
  • If a student does not have an Exam on a certain day, the student does NOT need to come to school. For example, a Senior who has earned a Senior Exam Exemption for a First Period Exam, does not have to come on Monday, January 10th. Or, if a student is present for every Final Exam from Monday through Thursday, the student does not have to come to school on Friday, January 14th for the Make-Up Final Exam Day.
  • Our Seniors are eligible for a Senior Exam Exemption. Seniors who have a Final Grade of “C” or better in a course that does not require a State mandated Exam will be considered EXEMPT from the Final Exam for the course. Attendance will not count toward Senior Exam Exemptions for this school year.
  • If a student does not take their Final Exam, the student will receive a “0” and that “0” grade will count for 20% of the student’s Final Grade for the course.
  • All End-Of-Course and CTE Post Assessments Final Exams MUST be taken on the student’s assigned WCPSS Chromebook.
  • Breakfast and Lunch will be served for those students who want to participate in these meal programs every day of the Final Exam week.
  • Students must be present at the beginning of the Final Exam period and must remain in the Final Exam setting for the entire Final Exam period. Even if a student finishes early, a student may not leave the Final Exam test setting. To maintain the integrity of our school-wide testing efforts, students will not be allowed to be checked out early or leave prior to 11:45 a.m. on each Final Exam testing day.
  • All In-Person Learning students will take all their Final Exams on campus.
  • Virtual Academy students will take their End-Of-Course and CTE Post Assessment Final Exams on campus. Final Exams for all other Virtual Academy courses will be given virtually.
  • All students need to leave campus by 12:05 p.m. each day of the week for Final Exams. Students may not wait on campus for afterschool events or programs.
  • Buses are running as usual in the morning, but will leave campus at 12:05 p.m. each day. They will NOT be coming back to make another run in the afternoon.
  • Students must NOT be on another school’s campus at anytime during Final Exam week.

 

Thank you for reading this information and becoming familiar with our Final Exam Schedule. Please also note that this Final Exam Schedule is subject to change as we get any updated health and safety information from the State or WCPSS.

 

STUDENTS MUST USE THEIR SCHOOL-ISSUED LAPTOP FOR STATE END-OF-COURSE TESTS AND CTE POST ASSESSMENTS: Please know that it is now Wake County Public School policy that all students taking a State End-Of-Course Exam, or a CTE Post Assessment Exam, are required to use their school-issued devices. Students who have not yet picked up their Chromebook should do so in the Media Center. Students who have a Chromebook that is damaged or not working should bring it to the Media Center so it can be repaired or replaced prior to our Final Exams. Please remember that Final Exams will be given Monday, January 10th through Friday, January 14th. Thank you for being sure your student is ready to take their State Final Exams on their Chromebook.

 

COVID-19 TESTING AT ATHENS DRIVE MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL: I wanted to inform you that WCPSS, in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, will be providing weekly COVID-19 testing on site at our school. To participate in this FREE, StrongSchoolsNC COVID-19 Testing, you will need to register. Please know this is NOT mandatory and there is no pressure for any student to participate. Here is some information regarding the testing program that will begin at Athens Drive Magnet High School:

  • Only students who register and Opt-In to this program will be tested.
  • All testing information is confidential, and results will be available in hours.
  • Raleigh-based MAKO Medical will administer an anterior nares nasal swab test that is quick and gentle.(This is NOT the test that tickles the brain!)
  • The first day of testing will be Friday, January 21st, and we will administer tests every Friday after that day.
  • The window for testing will be from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. We will be pulling registered students from their First Period class each Friday during this time to get tested or a student can test prior to First Period from 7:00 a.m. until 7:17 a.m.
  • We are still finalizing a location at our school for this testing, and I will let you know once we finalize that information.

We strongly recommend all families participate in this free program. COVID-19 variants are spreading throughout the United States and research shows routine testing can reduce the spread of COVID-19 by 50%, especially in large settings such as schools. How it works is that a parent or guardian must register any minor under 18 years old. Students who are 18 or older can register themselves. You’ll give a one-time consent and HIPAA authorization to share testing results with all necessary parties. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ATHENS DRIVE BRIDGE DEMOLITION AND CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW BRIDGE: I have been in communication with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and they have provided us notice regarding the upcoming demolition of the existing Athens Drive Bridge over Interstate 440 and the temporary road closure Eastbound and Westbound 440 from Jones Franklin and Western Boulevard required to complete the demolition. The road closure on 440 will be used to demolish the existing bridge and begin to construct a new one. The temporary road closures on 440 will be an ongoing process nightly from January 23rd through January 28th from 12:00 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. The Athens Drive road closure will last for approximately 365 days to allow for the construction of the new structure and roadway areas. This work is scheduled to begin on the evening of Friday, January 23rd at midnight. I wanted to be sure to share this information with you so that if you normally travel this route to Athens Drive Magnet High School, you can make alternative arrangements. I know this will cause an inconvenience for many of our school families, but it will all be done in a year it appears.

 

SCHEDULE CHANGE FORMS AND REQUEST FORM FOR EARLY DISMISSAL/LATE ARRIVAL FOR SECOND SEMESTER: Student Schedule Change requests and requests for an Early Dismissal/Late Arrival for the Second Semester has started and will end on Monday, January 10th. Please visit the Student Services website to obtain and submit these forms. Please know that all forms require a parent/guardian signature.

 

SENIOR SPORTSWEAR: The official Athens Senior Sportswear will go on sale on Monday, January 10th through Friday, January 21st! You can purchase your items online using the school's online payment system or complete the order forms and return them to Mr. Remaley in Room 2618. We have some terrific designs this year: "Waffle House", "Simpsons", and "Cars"! Click below to access the order forms or wait until Monday and pay online! T-shirts are $12.00, Long-sleeves are $14.00, Crewneck sweatshirts are $18.00, Hoodies are $20.00, and Sweatpants are $15.00! Get them before the sale ends on Friday, January 21st!

 

 

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS: Please continue to reference our Scholarship Bulletin which is updated often with new scholarship opportunities! We have amazingly talented students at The Drive, and these are great opportunities to get money for College!

 

SAT/ACT PREPARATION CLASS: To help prepare our Juniors for taking the SAT/ACT Administrations, we are offering a Third Quarter SAT/ACT Prep Course that will be starting on Monday, January 31st (6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.) and Tuesday, February 1st (3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.). The course if open for enrollment and you can find information here for details on how to register for this class. SENIOR BREAKFAST NEEDS: The Senior Breakfast planning team wants to help our Seniors make some great, lasting memories at Athens during the Senior Breakfast on Thursday, March 31st. This is a fully parent-funded, parent-planned event, and WE NEED YOU! Are you a “write a check” kind of volunteer?  You can make a monetary donation on the  Senior Breakfast Class of 2022 Cash Donation Page. We need to raise approximately $5.00 per student, so donations of any size are appreciated. Can we count you in? Prefer to donate a gift card for a prize? Enter that on the Senior Breakfast Volunteer & Donation Page. Then have your student deliver the gift card to Mr. Remaley, in Room 2618. Thank you so much for your help and support of our Seniors!

 

SPRING MUSICAL AUDITIONS: Auditions for the Spring Musical, Beehive, the musical, will be held on Wednesday, January 19th and Thursday, January 20th in the Chorus Room. Audition information will be posted on the callboard outside of the Chorus Room next week. Students must fill out an Audition Application prior to Auditioning. BAND: Any student interested in playing in our Jazz Ensemble during the Second Semester should stop by the Band Room to sign-up and pick up information.

 

DRIVER’S EDUCATION UPDATES: Please understand that Driver’s Education Registration is currently closed. Please do NOT submit forms until Registration begins again. Spring Class Registration start date is still to be determined. I would ask that you please visit www.jordandriving.com for updates and details regarding our Driver’s Education program. Please also understand that our Spring Driver’s Education Class schedule has been abbreviated due to student backlog. There will be only TWO classes offered this Spring (in March and May) and students will be registered oldest to youngest. Behind the Wheel Training for students who have completed the classroom portion is still experiencing extreme wait times. Please understand that they are currently contacting students from the May 2021 class. Please also know that students and parents can seek private driving school instruction for either portion of the course. PLANNING AHEAD FOR OUR SCHOOL SCHEDULE THE NEXT FEW WEEKS: Today was the last day of classes for the First Semester. Final Exams will be given Monday, January 10th through Friday, January 14th. Monday, January 17th is a Holiday and there is no school for students or staff. Tuesday, January 18th, is a Workday for staff, but no school for students. Then, the first day of school for the Third Quarter/Second Semester will be Wednesday, January 19th. Report Cards will be sent home with students on Friday, January 21st.

REMINDER ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM PREVIOUS WEEKLY MESSAGES:

 

 

QUARANTINE AND A SAFE RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM: Please know that we have had several members of our school family test positive for COVID-19, we have had to conduct substantial contact tracing, and we have students who have had to be quarantined due to being exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Please remember that if both students are wearing their masks appropriately, and one of the students exposes the other student, the other student does NOT have to quarantine. Therefore, we advocate and want to ensure that all students, staff, and visitors wear a face covering and wear it appropriately (covers the nose and mouth and is under the chin). In addition, if a student is fully vaccinated, the student does not have to quarantine. I would ask that we all review WCPSS’s Safe Return to School Plan to ensure that we are all doing what we need to do if a student has to quarantine to stay safe and stop the spread of COVID-19. I appreciate your understanding and support as we deal with this COVID-19 pandemic.

 

PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF YOU ARE SICK OR SYMPTOMATIC! I would continue to ask that we please work together to keep all our students, staff, and visitors safe and work to stop the spread of COVID-19 at The Drive. To support this effort, students who are experiencing any of these Department of Health and Human Services-identified COVID-19 symptoms should NOT come to school: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle of body aches, headache, new loss of taste and smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

 

SENIOR CAP AND GOWN ORDERING INFORMATION: Please remember that each Senior is responsible for purchasing their own Cap and Gown, or they can borrow one from a previous Athens Drive Graduate. The Cap and Gown is royal blue and will include a 2022 orange tassel. The ordering packets the Seniors received also contain information about custom printed Athens Graduation announcements, spirit wear, and so much more. You can order online by visiting www.jostens.com or you can order in-person by filling out the order form and either mailing it (along with payment) to the address listed. Please remember that the Graduation Fee of $60.00 is a separate fee and needs to be paid online through the Athens Drive website online payment system or in-person to the Main Office. FOOD PANTRY IS OPEN! In case you were not aware, at Athens Drive we also have a Food Pantry supported by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. The Food Pantry is stocked with non-perishable food items, toiletries, and fresh produce and frozen meats, when possible. Families are invited to shop in our Food Pantry by appointment during business hours, 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. To make an appointment, please contact Student Services at (919) 233-4050 or email Ms. Burnette at pburnette@wcpss.net.

 

WINTER SPORTS GAME EXPERIENCE: Our Winter sports season has begun, and we are excited to continue to host events inside. To comply with Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) rules, policies, and procedures, and to ensure we work to keep everyone as safe as possible during this pandemic, please understand that we are implementing the following rules for all our Indoor Winter Sports Events:

 

  • Face coverings must be worn at all times while inside at school. This includes all athletic events held indoors.
  • There will be no food or drinks allowed in the Gym. There will be concessions available for purchase, but those items will need to be consumed in the Gym Lobby or Courtyard and not in the Gym.
  • No outside food or drinks are allowed to be brought into the school.
  • No large bags or backpacks of any kind will be allowed in the Gym.
  • Weapons, illegal substances, or any dangerous items are strictly prohibited.

 

Thank you for adhering to these rules. I appreciate your assistance in helping us maintain a fun, competitive environment to support our school, student athletes, and teams!

 

FAN CODE OF CONDUCT: As you attend various athletic events, you will also see our Fan Code of Conduct. We ask all spectators to adhere to this Code of Conduct:

 

  • The Athens Drive Athletic Department is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all student athletes and fans while visiting our campus.
  • School staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where our student athletes and fans can enjoy an event experience free from the following:
    • Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal in nature
    • Abusive, foul, or disruptive language and obscene gestures
    • Fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures
    • Throwing objects of any kind
    • Any disruption to the progress of the event caused by a fan’s actions
    • Intoxication or other signs of impairment related to alcohol consumption or other substance abuse
    • Failing to follow instructions from school staff
    • Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team’s student athletes or fans
    • Any behavior that otherwise interferes with the progress of the contest

FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) IS OPEN: Seniors and Senior families, please remember that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open! Don’t forget to get this completed if you will be applying for Federal Student Loans! The sooner that the FAFSA is completed, the better.

 

INFORMATION NEEDED FROM OUR MILITARY-CONNECTED FAMILIES: To ensure that the unique needs of our Military-connected students are met, North Carolina state law requires that schools collect information on Military-connected students. The goal is to help accommodate these students by providing them with support and consistency when their parents/immediate family members are deployed, when they are transitioning between schools, and at other pivotal times during their academic career. We gave hard copies of the form that needs to be returned to our school to our students during First Period last week. If you did not get the hard copy form and you a Military-connected family, please return THIS FORM to Ms. Martin in our Student Services office or email it to her (lmartin@wcpss.net). Please complete this form by Friday, November 12th. If you are not a Military-connected family, you do not need to complete this form.

 

COUSELOR’S CORNER: Our Student Services Team has started a new service to support our students. Every Tuesday during every Lunch Period, two Counselors from our Student Services team will be set up in the Gym/Auditorium Lobby to be available to speak with students and answer questions. We encourage our students to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with a Counselor and get any questions answered.

 

ATHENS ORACLE: I'm excited to let you know that the Athens Oracle Staff is now publishing daily on our website, Twitter, and Instagram. We moved away from print publication last year and found that the students really liked publishing more online. They can get stories out faster and can use multiple types of media to tell their stories. Our students are excited about their articles and posts and wanted me to share them with you.  Please check out the website here: Athens Oracle and follow them on Twitter and Instagram @AthensOracle. Also, the Athens Oracle we would love to feature your class, club, sport, hard-working student, or you! Send us article ideas and we will put reporters on the stories.  If you have an idea, send it to our Newspaper Advisor, Ms. Hornick (phornick@wcpss.net). ATHENS DRIVE TUTORING CLUB: Please remember that our Athens Drive Tutoring Club is up and running, again, for this year. Attached is the information brochure. This is for students that would like to request a Peer Tutor AND for those students who would like to be a Peer Tutor. Information can be found on the Athens Drive Tutoring Club website.

 

CHROMEBOOK CASES ARE AVAILABLE: We have received Chromebook cases for students with Lenovo Chromebooks checked out last year. Any student with a WCPSS Chromebook issued last year can stop by the Media Center to get a case for their device. 

 

DRIVER’S EDUCATION: Please know that Registration for Fall Driver’s Education classes (November and December) have opened. Students must be 14-and-a-half years old to take their Driver’s Education class. Please be sure and download, complete, and email the Registration form to (coachjray.driversed@gmail.com). CARPOOL SAFETY: There has been an increase in the number of cars that are just pulling over on Athens Drive to stop and either drop-off students in the morning or pick-up students in the afternoon. This is a very dangerous practice, and I would ask all our parents to please STOP doing this and follow our carpool process and procedures. I know that we all have our students’ safety and well-being as our top priority, and continuing this practice just isn’t worth the extra few minutes you may save in circumventing our on-campus carpool process. Thank you for providing not only a positive role model for our students by doing the right thing, but thank you for caring about the safety of all students by stopping this practice immediately. I do appreciate it.

 

VIRTUAL COLLEGE VISITS HAVE BEGUN: Virtual College Visits began this week! Students can visit the College Visits section of our Student Services page of the Athens Drive Magnet High School website, and on the left, under “College Visits” they will find a calendar of events. Interested students can attend a session by clicking on the school’s scheduled event and finding the Virtual URL Link. Representatives will be holding virtual meetings during A Lunch and C Lunch each week. Contact information for the College’s representative can also be found there. Please have a student contact their Counselor if they have any questions.

 

SENIORGRAM IS POSTED FOR OUR SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES: Our official SENIORGRAM from Mr. Remaley has been released with all the important Senior Event dates for the entire school year! Be sure to check it out and save those dates! ACCESSING TEACHER/COURSE INFORMATION: To best support the academic success of our students, every teacher has created a Learning Management System in either Canvas or Google Classroom. Students and families can access these resources by finding their Teacher on our Faculty Directory on the Athens Drive Magnet High School website. Students who are out of school due to absences or quarantine must utilize this resource to stay up-to-date with class assignments and resources.

 

GRADUATION DATE FINALIZED FOR THE CLASS OF 2022!! I am happy to announce that our Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2022 will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Raleigh Convention Center! I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of this incredible Class at our Commencement Exercises!

 

STUDENTS MUST HAVE A VALID PARKING PASS TO PARK ON CAMPUS: On Monday, September 13th, we will begin to ticket any cars who are parking on campus who do not have a valid Parking Pass to park on campus. We will also be ticketing students who park in a different Parking Space than the one they are assigned. I would like to ask all students and parents to help us ensure that only those students who have a valid Parking Pass park on campus. Please understand that any student who parks on campus must have a Parking Pass and park only in their assigned space. It is important for us to know who is parking in each space and have parent permission for students to drive and park on campus. Students interested in securing a Parking pass for the 2021 – 2022 school year should carefully read and follow the guidelines on the application. To complete the Parking Pass Application process, please complete the On-Line Parking Registration.

 

WEARING OF MASKS APPROPRIATELY AT ALL TIMES WHILE INSIDE DURING SCHOOL: Please help us remind your student that it is REQUIRED that all students, staff, and visitors to Athens Drive Magnet High School wear a face covering that covers their nose, mouth, and is under their chin. This is for the safety and well-being of all of us at The Drive, and I would ask that you please help us ensure that your student understands this mandate. It is imperative that we all comply and support a safe climate to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our school.

 

INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR STUDENT FEATURED IN THE YEARBOOK? Our Yearbook staff are looking for information about students so that we can provide more in-depth coverage while we are separated. If your student is doing something or participating in something unique or stands out in anyway, the Yearbook staff would like to hear from you. This could be a student participating in Club Sports, starting their own business, volunteering, etc. They would love to know more about your student! DRESS CODE: I would like to again enlist your support in helping us maintain appropriate dress at school. WCPSS has a Dress Code Policy, and I would ask that all students adhere to this Dress Code. Please be sure that students do not wear clothing that violates the Dress Code. In addition, hats, hoods that are pulled over the head, do-rags, and bandanas are also not allowed to be worn on school grounds. I would ask that we work together to be sure our students dress appropriately and focus on learning. I thank you for your support!

 

NO PARKING ON JAGUAR PARK DRIVE: Please know that there is no street parking on Jaguar Park Drive. The City of Raleigh is currently working to build a sidewalk along Jaguar Park Drive, and I would ask our student drivers to be careful as they navigate this street and enter our Senior and Junior Parking Lots. If a student drives to school, the student must purchase a Parking Pass and park on campus.

 

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION: We are implementing new procedures for Student Check-In and Check-Out and are working to go as paperless as possible with regards to our Attendance procedures. I would ask that school families please use our Attendance-Specific email address (athenshs-attendance@wcpss.net) to send any communication regarding Attendance. Any emails from parents/guardians, doctor’s offices, etc. need to be sent to that email address. In addition, when a parent/guardian comes to school to check-out or check-in a student, the parent/guardian will be using a QR Code that we have posted on the Front Door of the school to complete our process. As soon as the parent/guardian is done entering the information in the Google Doc, we will contact the student’s teacher and the student will come to the Front Doors of the school for Check-Out. Please remember that for safety reasons, there are no student Check-Outs allowed after 1:45 p.m. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we implement these new procedures!

VIRTUAL ACADEMY WEBSITE: We have created a Virtual Academy website that is open as a resource for our Virtual Academy students. We hope this information supports our Virtual Academy students and families as they embark on virtual teaching and learning this year.

 

FREE SCHOOL MEALS FOR THE ENTIRE 2021 – 2022 SCHOOL YEAR: Please remember that Breakfast, and Lunch, will be available at no cost to all students for the 2021 – 2022 school year. While WCPSS may be able to offer free meals to all students, it is very important for eligible parents to complete a meal benefits application because this data enables schools to obtain funding to provide other important educational resources to benefit our students. Other benefits that are issued directly to families that have applied and are eligible for meal benefits may also be available (such as the P-EBT cash benefit). Parents can complete a meal benefits application online at https://www.myschoolapps.com/. Paper applications also are available at all schools. More information can be found at WCPSS Free & Reduced Meals.

 

FAMILY PARTNERS—OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE: I am looking to start a new program to better facilitate communication and to address the specific needs of each Grade Level. Our Family Partners program will be an opportunity for our school families to meet throughout the year to receive specific information related to the Grade Level of their student. I am hoping this will build positive relationships and increase timely, specific information to our school families. To make this partnership work, I am asking that we have approximately five parents/guardians from each to serve as a Lead Family Partner for each Grade. These Lead Family Partners will serve as facilitators for each group along with one Administrator and one Counselor. Together, these individuals will lead meetings (my thinking is maybe three/four meetings a year), be a resource for Grade Level school families, support Grade Level families through communication, and be Grade Level representatives at a few of our school-wide events (e.g., Magnet Open House, Curriculum Night, etc.). The time commitment will not be overwhelming, I promise, and it will give these individuals a chance to gain insights and information to support their own students and all students in that Grade Level. Lead Family Partners will move each year forward with their Grade Level (e.g., the same Lead Family Partners for the Freshmen Class this year will be the same Lead Family Partners for the Sophomore Class next year, etc.). If you would be interested in serving in this capacity, I would ask you to please complete this Family Partner Information Form letting me know your interest in serving in this capacity. PARKING PASS: Parking passes for Juniors and Seniors in good standing for the 2021 – 2022 school year are now available. Students interested in securing a Parking pass for the 2021 – 2022 school year should carefully read and follow the guidelines on the application. To complete the Parking Pass Application process, please be sure to do the following:

 

  • Complete the Online Parking Form
  • Print and complete the One-Page Paper Application (which includes a signed copy of the Athens Drive Magnet High School and Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Rules and Regulations). Please note the dates for accepting applications.
  • Make a clear copy of your valid North Carolina Driver’s License (permanent license, not a permit) and Vehicle Registration(s).
  • Students must not have any outstanding fees and fines (our Main Office Staff will verify this). A Parking Tag will not be issued if a student has any outstanding fees or fines.

 

The cost of a Parking Pass is $200.00 for the year. Parking tags may be picked up beginning on Monday, August 2nd, Monday through Friday, through Friday, August 20th, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please know that Parking Passes and Off-Campus Lunch Passes are two separate applications.

 

OFF-CAMPUS LUNCH PASS: Off-Campus Lunch passes for Juniors and Seniors in good standing for the 2021 – 2022 school year are also now available. A Junior or Senior student cannot leave campus during Lunch without having an authorized Off-Campus Lunch pass. Freshmen and Sophomores are NEVER allowed to leave campus during the school day, unless on an approved school trip. To complete this process, please visit the Off-Campus Lunch Pass information page on our Athens Drive Magnet High School website and please note the following:

 

  • The student must be a Junior or Senior.
  • The student must not have any outstanding fees and fines due to Athens Drive Magnet High School.
  • The student must have the parent/guardian sign the Off-Campus Lunch Pass application.

 

Please know the 2021 – 2022 Off-Campus Lunch Pass Application Form can be found on our website. The cost for a 2021 – 2022 Off-Campus Lunch Pass is $5.00. The completed form needs to be emailed to our School Receptionist, Ms. Gattens (emgattens@wcpss.net) or physically brought to the school to the Main Office to turn it in. Please know that since we did not take student photographs last year due to COVID-19, we will need to make every Off-Campus Lunch Pass in the Main Office. Students will need to come to school beginning Monday, August 2nd, between the hours or 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. every day, Monday through Friday, until Friday, August 20th. A completed application and $5.00 fee must be provided before we can create an Off-Campus Lunch Pass for a student. Please know that Parking passes and Off Campus Lunch passes are two separate applications.

DRIVER’S EDUCATION INFORMATION: The Lead Teacher for our Athens Drive Driver’s Education Program is Coach Ray. You can reach Coach Ray at coachjray.driversed@gmail.com. Please know that Registration for Driver’s Education is currently closed. Fall Registration for classes is tentatively scheduled to start in mid-to-late September. ATHLETIC REGISTRATION: All registration for all Athletic teams/sports this year will take place via the DragonFly platform. Please get your student athlete's medical paperwork and permission slips loaded on the platform as soon as possible. The approval process does take up to a week, so please do not wait until the last minute to get registered. You can find the registration link here and directions on how to complete the process here. If you need a copy of the Physical you turned in last year, please fill out this form. PTSA INFORMATION: Our first PTSA Meeting was held on Tuesday night, and I appreciated the parents who attended and are getting involved! I attend every meeting as well, although I had a family situation to take care of Tuesday night and couldn’t attend our first meeting, and I appreciate the opportunity to share information and receive feedback from our families. I am thankful for all our parents who help in a myriad of ways to support our students, staff, and school! ATHLETIC SPORTS PASSES: Athens Drive Athletics Sports Passes are now on sale for the 2021 – 2022 Athletic year!  All passes this year will be Digital, via the GoFAN platform. We offer four levels of sports passes; Student Pass, Individual Pass, Family Pass, and Go Jags Family Pass. If you purchase a Go Jags Family Pass, a customized Paw Print on the sidewalk outside Jag Stadium is included with your package. To get the Paw Print painted prior to the Fall Season, please make sure you purchase your Athletic Sport Pass by Saturday, July 31st. JAGUAR PAW PRINTS: Jaguar Paw Prints are on sale again this year for the athlete recognition paws that lead up to Jaguar Stadium. If you purchase a Go Jags Family Pass, it is included with your Pass membership fee. However, if you would like to order a Paw Print separately, please fill out this Paw Print form and we will send more information to you on how to purchase the Paw Print for the 2021 – 2022 school year.
