December 9th, 2020

It is with great sadness that I let you know that I have decided to cancel our Friday night Holiday Lights Drive-Through event. I want you all to know that I was fired up when our Student Government presented this idea to me and I have been pleased to see so many staff and student groups engage in this event! I am saddened that so many things are being canceled to give our students opportunities to come together safely to lift spirits! I do believe that it would bring joy and togetherness for our school family in a fun, safe manner.

However, in the last few days I have been concerned about the rising numbers of COVID-19 positive tests. In addition, I believe that it is important for us to model appropriate and responsible behavior for our students, school families, and the community. Based on that belief, I am concerned that holding this event during these escalating metrics, new Governor restrictions, etc., is not the responsible and right thing to do. Thus, I have decided to cancel this program.

For our students, staff, and school families that put in a so much time and energy to prepare, I am sorry. However, I do believe it is important to make decisions that are in the best interest of the safety, health, and well-being of our students, staff, and school families, and I hope you can understand that is at the heart of my decision.

One of the reasons that made canceling this event even harder, was that 100% of all proceeds from the event were going to charity. To still be able to give, even without our Holiday Lights Drive-Through event, our FFA Chapter is going to hold their Toys for Tots collection event to collect toys on Friday, December 11th, from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the Stadium Parking Lot. Please consider purchasing a new toy and bringing to this Drive-Through, drop-off event.

Please continue to be safe and vigilant in caring for not only yourselves, but each other! I continue to be thankful to serve with such an amazing school family. Please take care, enjoy your night, and Go JAGS!
