Principal's Message May 9, 2025 (Course Registration, Supply Lists 25-26, 8th-grade Turn in Chromebooks)

Hello HMS Families!

The painting is complete, and I’m so excited about the fresh, updated look of our wonderful school! The blue and gray tones were chosen to reflect our school colors, and the overall feel is calm, welcoming, and homey. Can't wait for you all to see it!

Welcome back track 3!  See you all on Monday.  As a friendly reminder, ALL tracks will be in starting on Monday, May 9 so please plan accordingly, for carpool, so your child is here on time.  

 

Next week! 

  • It is Staff Appreciation Week!  Do you have a teacher or staff member you would like to recognize for making HMS a great place to learn and grow?  Please use this link to submit Notes of Appreciation! These messages will be delivered to staff members the week of May 12th. Let's fill their buckets up!!!!
  • Tuesday, May 13: 
    • 8th-grade cultural arts performance
    • Math 2 students have their final exam from 10:35 - 12:35
    • Band Concert 6:00 PM
    • The Heritage Football Camp will start on Tuesday, May 13th and is open for all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Camp will run on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15-4:45. You will need water and tennis shoes. In order to participate, you must have all of your Dragonfly paperwork submitted (http://dragonflymax.com/forms/P3GSFT) and up to date. If you have football camp questions, please see Coach Wrighten. If you have Dragonfly questions, please see Mr. Miles. 
  • Wednesday, May 14: Flora Festival - Tickets are $6 which can be paid in cash at the event or by using the Go Fans app. https://gofan.co/event/3531743?schoolId=NC68157  
  • Thursday, May 15: Chorus Concert 6:00 PM
  • Friday, May 16 at 8:20 AM: Scott Sloan, the Athletic Director at Heritage High School, will visit our school to speak with rising 9th graders interested in playing sports at Heritage. Students are invited to the cafeteria during Encore for this event.
  • Saturday, May 17: Make-up day for 2/19 snow day - Tracks 1 & 3

 

Supply lists

The new/updated supply list page will go live on our website homepage on Tuesday, May 27.  It will be in the same location on our website, under "families" then "supply lists".  Here is the link and it will be updated for our 25-26 year supply list by May 27.  https://www.wcpss.net/domain/4169

 

Course Registration for 25-26 School Year

The course registration for the 25-26 school year has been completed.  Parents of current 6th and 7th grade students can review their student's course requests in PowerSchool. Once logged into PowerSchool, parents can click on "Class Registration" to see course requests. Please contact your student's counselor by Friday, May 16th (6th - sswann@wcpss.net or 7th - jpeasley@wcpss.net) if you have any questions or want to request a change.

 

8th Grade Students To Turn in Chromebooks

8th grade students must turn in their Chromebook and charger to their homeroom teacher before leaving HMS. Students will receive a new device once they arrive at their High School. To be eligible for this new device, students MUST turn in their device & charger on Wednesday May 28 (Tr. 1) or Wednesday June 25 (Tr. 3 & 4).

 

TikTok Challenge

WCPSS communications sent a message to staff and families yesterday regarding a social media trend currently circulating in some schools. This TikTok challenge encourages students to intentionally damage their Chromebooks in ways that can cause the device to smoke, create fire hazards, damage electrical outlets, and could lead to serious injury.  Please speak with your child about the challenge, but in addition, taking care of school property, such as the Chromebooks, and using it for instructional purposes only.  

 

Athletics

  • Wake Forest HS - May 13 at 6pm (Lindsey gym)
  • Rolesville HS - May 19 at 6pm (main gym)
  • Heritage HS - May 21 at 7pm
  • Wakefield HS - May 22 at 6pm (main gym)
