Principal's Message March 28, 2025 (Make-up days, report cards, educational leave, EOG/EOC testing and readministration dates, and registration)

Hello HMS Families!

Hello and happy track out day to track 4!!!  We will see you back on Tuesday, April 22.  I know, that is different to start on a Tuesday, but that is when track 4 tracks in.  Track 1 returns Monday, March 31.  Hope all of the track 1 kids had a great track out.  It is their last quarter - let’s make it the best!  Please note that next week is traditional schools’ spring break.  They are out, but HMS is NOT.

Friday, April 4 is Media Coordinator appreciation day.  If you or your children have interacted with Ms. O’Neal, please reach out with appreciation!  Her email is toneal@wcpss.net.

Make-up days

Friendly reminder, students on tracks 1 and 3 have a Saturday make-up day coming up on Saturday, April 5.  There are two other dates for tracks 1 and 3 on April 12 and May 17.  Hours are 8:20 - 11:50, Transportation will be provided, and breakfast and lunch will be available.

Report Cards

Tracks 1 and 3 will get report cards April 7 and track 4 will get report cards April 28.

Educational Leave

We understand that in year-round schools, it can be challenging when siblings are on different calendars. There may be times when you choose to take your child out of school for family time, and we completely understand that.  However, please note that not all absences qualify as educational leave. Educational leave is specifically designed for trips that are planned in advance with a clear educational purpose, providing experiences comparable to a school day.  Before submitting an educational leave request, please ensure that the trip aligns with these guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and support in prioritizing your child’s education.

Registration for 25-26 School Year

Our counselors have been working with students to review elective options for next year and this process will be completed by April 14.  Students will receive a paper elective form to take home and complete before registering online at school on their designated registration date. Please reach out to Ms. Swann, the 6th-grade counselor at sswann@wcpss.net, or Mrs. Peasley, the 7th-grade counselor at jpeasley@wcpss.net, if you have any questions.

Athletics:

This week is a lighter week for HMS Athletics, but don't let that crush your (Patriot) spirit! On Wednesday, our girls' softball team hosts Rolesville, which promises to be a great game! Then on Thursday, our track team travels to Neuse River for their second track meet of the season. Tickets ($6) are available online at GoFan or at the gate. Come out and cheer on your Patriots to victory!
