August 29, 2021 Principal Message
Hello Patriot Families!
It has been a week of flexibility (and heat) at HMS since the AC unit that cools the 8th grade hall and several other classrooms has gone down. This has meant that students have been moved all over campus, including into the media center and cafeteria for classes. We’re hoping for cooler times ahead as portable AC units have been delivered this weekend until parts come in to repair the unit. Here are this week’s reminders:
Bus Drivers: Thank you for thanking the bus drivers who show up each day. The available drivers are covering multiple routes to get students to/from school. We have met drivers who have covered four and five routes at one time to get students to (or from) school. Normally, they cover up to two routes in the morning (or afternoon).
Carpool: Carpool numbers have increased due to the bus delays. Thank you for your patience. We are always busiest when Track 2 is tracked out. Continue to avoid the traffic jam that occurs daily 7:52ish-7:58 if you can; traffic seems to flow smoothly before and after that time period.
Here Comes the Bus App: WCPSS Transportation provides bus rider families with a FREE bus tracking system called Here Comes the Bus, which translates GPS data into an easy to use customizable map that works on a computer, tablet or smartphone. The app allows you to see where the bus is and how close it is to your stop. For more information and to sign up, click here.
PTA: Our next Spirit Night has been confirmed. Papa Murphy's, at 11721 Retail Drive on September 2, 2021. They will be donating back 33%. The Spirit Night will run from 1:00 pm -7:00 pm. Mark your calendars!
Reminders from Previous Weekly Messages:
Attendance Notes: If you need to provide an absence note for your child, please notify the school at firstname.lastname@example.org . Alternatively, your child may take a note to his/her homeroom teacher.
BYOD Ends Sept. 3: After Labor Day, students will utilize their WCPSS-issued device or will be assigned one for daily classroom use. Please keep personal Ipads, laptops, and Chromebooks at home after Labor Day.
Community Clean Up: Mark your calendars for our community clean up, the morning of October 23! In coordination with our PTA Beautification Committee, we will be sprucing up the front lawn. We look forward to having families, student groups, and staff working together to complete some much needed mulching and weed pulling. More details to come!
Covid Diagnosis: If a student receives a positive Covid diagnosis, do not send the student to school. Please contact the principal at email@example.com. The guidance for exposure and return to school is updated here: https://www.wcpss.net/whentoreturn
PTA: This year we have a special opportunity to help HMS move into the 21st century by buying a new flat screen smart TV for every classroom! Please donate today to the No Fuss Fundraiser. If every family gives, we'll reach our goal in no time!
Join the PTA to stay in the know and continue to support our school. Thank you! You can make payments and access all PTA-related information on the website at https://heritagemiddlepta.weebly.com/ Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday, September 7th, at 7:00 pm. While we hope to meet in person again SOON; for now, we will continue our virtual meetings via Zoom. We are not allowed to publicize the meeting link, so PLEASE email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to get the link!! Even if you're not ready to "do" something, attending the meetings is a GREAT and EASY way to know what's going on at your child(ren)'s school! Join us! All are welcome!
Student Services Announcement: The WCPSS Community Family Academy holds FREE Virtual and Face-to-Face Parent Workshops and educational events for WCPSS families in various schools and community sites throughout Wake County. From research, we understand that students achieve more when families are involved in their children's education.
The purpose of the Family Academy program is to provide families with the necessary academic tools to support the success of their child's education and to bring schools, parents/guardians, families, and community organizations together as equal partners.
If you'd like information about these workshops, please check out the Student Services Website located HERE
