July 18, 2021 Principal Message
Hello Patriot Families!
Here are the reminders for this coming week:
AIG: Program information can be found on the AIG website linked under Academics on the HMS homepage. Ms. Worley has posted a video to explain the details of the AIG program at HMS. Please view at your convenience and email Ms. Worley with any questions.
PTA: Please join our PTA! You can make payments and access all information PTA-related on the website at https://heritagemiddlepta.weebly.com/ The first Spirit Night fundraiser will take place at MOD Pizza @ 2815 Rogers Road Suite 102, Wake Forest, NC, US 27587 on July 26, 2021. Please come out and purchase a pizza or two. A percentage of the sales goes to support our PTA on this night.
Technology Request: Please help your child remember to charge his/her device each evening before school.
Technology Updates: WCPSS is in the process of moving our district to 1:1 devices. All children will be eligible to receive a WCPSS Chromebook, at no cost. Students will be eligible for a new device every four years after. Currently, the focus is on distributing devices to students who have never been issued one or to students whose device is outdated. If you are contacted about receiving a device, please pick up your child's Chromebook at our Device Distribution Event here at HMS on July 29 (Tracks 1, 2, & 3) and August 2 (Track 4) from 5-7pm. Bring your own device (BYOD) will be ending after distribution. Families who are unable to pick up the assigned device on this date will be contacted by the school. You do not need to call the school to let us know that you cannot attend.
Virtual Academy: Virtual Academy schedules have been delayed. Schools are scheduled to receive enrollment information from WCPSS by July 23. We will create schedules the following week. We regret the delay but are using district resources to serve our students and must rely on their timelines.
Walker Passes: If you live in our Walk Zone (1.5 miles), you may request a walker/bicycle pass for your student. See the main banner on our website for application instructions. Students who had a Walker Pass last year do not need to reapply. Please allow 24 - 48 hours for processing. Tracks 1, 2, and 3 families need to make a request for a Walker Pass by July 23. Track 4 families are asked to make a request by August 17. We will no longer be monitoring requests for Walker Passes after these deadlines.

PowerSchool Access for Parents: PowerSchool (Homebase) is the program we use to provide real-time information regarding student updates such as attendance and grades. All students have a PowerSchool account. If you already have a parent PowerSchool account for your child, you do not have to reapply. If you do not have a parent PowerSchool account and would like one (or need to create one for another student), follow these directions: https://www.wcpss.net/student-information . You may submit your completed form in one of two ways:
- You may return the completed, notarized form with your student to any teacher.
- You may show your ID and submit the completed form in the carpool line on July 12-14 (tracks 1-3) or August 4-6 (track 4).
School Messenger: If you'd like to customize the type of communications you receive on your phone or email, you can create a School Messenger account. School Messenger is how you are receiving this Weekly Update as well as news from WCPSS.
