June 20, 2021 Principal Message

Hello Patriot Families!

Happy Father’s Day!  This past week has been a great one!  Many teams have celebrated the end of the year in a variety of ways.  We particularly enjoyed the 8th Grade Car Parade and seeing many vehicles decked out to celebrate our departing 8th graders.  We wish them and their families much success at the high school level!

I would be remiss without noting that it has almost been one year since my arrival at Heritage.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to the many families who have reached out with words of support to make my transition a smooth one and to make me feel a part of the Heritage Family.  I am so very fortunate to serve alongside a wonderful staff and dedicated families in serving your children.

Monday is the LAST DAY of the 2020-21 school year!  Here are this week’s updates:

Material Return:   If you need to return any materials (novels, band materials, Spanish materials, hotspots, library books, etc.), our office hours June 22 - July 8 will be 8:00am - 4:00pm (Mon.-Thurs.).  July 5 is a holiday for all of our staff.

Report Cards:  Report Cards and any EOG/EOC scores received are scheduled to be mailed on June 25.

Return to School for 2021-2022:

Schedules 2021-2022:  I know that you are anxious to know about your class schedules for next year.  We will not have this information - for students in the building or Virtual Academy - until just prior to the start of school.  We will let you know when it is available.

Yearbooks:  The yearbook was distributed to homeroom teachers on Wednesday 6/16 to those who purchased them. Additional books are available for purchase on a first come, first serve basis from the front office for $50, cash or check only.  A limited quantity remain.

  • New cough
  • New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell

Technology Updates:  All School issued Wi-Fi hotspots MUST be returned to school before the end of the school year. You may drop off the hotspot AND the charger at the front office or have your child return it to their homeroom teacher.  If your child is returning to a WCPSS school for the 21-22 school year and has a school-issued Chromebook, he/she will need to keep the Chromebook for use next year.  If your child is not returning to a WCPSS school, you must return the school issued Chromebook and charger.  If your child is returning to WCPSS AND has a damaged Chromebook, it is important for you to return that Chromebook now.  Returning it makes your child eligible to receive a replacement device for the 21-22 school year.  Any student who doesn't currently have a school-issued Chromebook will receive one automatically for the 21-22 school year.

Track Assignments:  Track assignments for 2021-2022 are listed on the school website https://www.wcpss.net/HeritageMS.  You may search by student ID # using the “Ctrl F” function.

Take Care,

Jo Ellen Newhouse, Heritage Middle School Principal
