March 28, 2021 Principal Message

Hello Patriot Families!

It’s been a busy week at Heritage with the close of Quarter 3 and the announcement for Plan A.  Due to processes being updated daily, I will provide a Weekly Update over track out.  I hope you enjoy time with your families while students are tracked out.  Here are this week’s updates:

8th Grade Families:  A tremendous THANK YOU to our 428 RESPONSIBLE 8th grade students, their SUPPORTIVE parents/guardians, and their FABULOUS 8th grade teachers for all the support in High School registration. HIGH SCHOOL REGISTRATION IS COMPLETE!

Board Meeting March 22:  The Board voted to bring students into the building on Plan A for Quarter 4.   Please note that the social distancing requirement has been relaxed in most parts of the school to three feet or to the extent practical.  We will maximize social distancing as much as possible to reduce the spread of Covid. We will also be implementing two lunches per grade level to accommodate the larger number of students who will be in the building.  We will be modifying our cafeteria protocols to meet the updated Eating and Drinking Guidelines.

Drive By Pick up for Virtual Academy:  The next Drive By Pick Up will be held Monday, April 12, noon-6 pm or Tuesday, April 13, 7:30 am-1:30 pm.  Families should plan to return the current novel their child is reading and plan to pick up a new novel and/or new workbooks.  Please note students planning to return to in-person instruction on April 14th DO NOT need to attend the Drive By Pick up.  Your child's current novel will be collected by April 14th in class and new materials will be handed out on in class.

EOG Testing:  Plans are being adjusted for testing now that we know students will be in Plan A or Virtual Academy.  However, we can’t finalize plans until we know the number of students in each plan.  You can expect an update on details in the next Weekly Update.

Quarantining in Plan A:  We are reviewing possible procedures for learning if a student must quarantine under Plan A.  This is challenging because of confidentiality laws.  I will update you once these decisions are made.

Planning for 2021-2022:  We continue to wait for decisions regarding how Virtual Academy will be implemented and do not anticipate receiving this information until late April.  These decisions directly impact our track assignments and staffing.  I know that many of you are trying to make vacation plans, and my best advice is to go ahead and make them.  We will work with you and your student(s) if needed to make up work in 2021-2022.  Thank you for your patience as we continue to wait for these decisions.

Survey for Plan A or Virtual Academy:  Just a reminder that all families should submit a survey response for each child regarding Quarter 4.   Surveys are due by April 1.  Families must choose either Plan A or Virtual Academy for their student(s).   There is not a remote option in Plan A.  We do not anticipate another opportunity to change learning environments.   Thanks to the 50% of families who have already completed the survey, which was sent earlier this week.

IEP/504 Students:

6th grade (non-IEP/504):

7th grade (non-IEP/504):

8th grade (non-IEP/504):

Technology in Plan A:  Students will be required to bring WCPSS issued devices to school and encouraged to bring personal devices.  Although many activities will not require their use, devices will remain the primary tool for disseminating online materials and for work submission in order to reduce the possibility of Covid spread.  There will be some devices available if a student is unable to bring his/her device.
